    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Thanks. I've got visions of bulk grains dancing in my head. I'll probably use the hand crank for now because the small amount of grains needed for 1 gallon batches won't take long to crush.

That looks very similar to the one I just received. Mine has a cast cover plate to keep the grain from flying. Well at least flying too far.

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I tried using my new Westin grain mill. A couple of tweaks and I was crushing grain. Here's a half a pound of 2-Row crushed. I think I've got a SMaSH in my future for this weekend.

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Someone mentioned that this thread is getting hard to keep up with and I can believe it. All the awesome recipe ideas and techniques that are being posted around here. Do you think we should start a 1-gallon recipe thread and 1-gallon technique/general brewing help thread? Just running up the...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

One the first craft brews I ever tried was a raspberry wheat when I visited Park City, UT. I really like it so I tried to copy it but was never happy with the results. I pretty much given up brewing with fruit, I can never get enough of the fruit flavor to come through. I think for my last try...

I bottle over the open door of my dishwasher. If anything spills, when i'm done I just close the door no more mess.

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

This has been on my mind as well. I'll probably use my 6.5 gallon bottling bucket for the first time. I've got a "L" shape piece and small rubber stopper that fit inside my bottling faucet so I leave a tiny amount of beer behind. If you haven't checked Revy's thread on bottling its a must...

Your welcome. The first one is always a little nerve racking but I'm sure it will be a good beer. Now the hard part is waiting.

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Lots of factors involved with that question. Are you brewing an ale or lager? Which yeast did you use? Just to calm your fears, no its not too cold. The beer/wort will actually be warmer than room temperature during its high point of fermentation. So cooler is usually better than too warm. An...

Looking for TIG Welding in Central Iowa

I thought you may have contacted those local guys. I hoped if they didn't want the work, they might suggest someone else. Have you tried the home brew club based in Des Moines: Iowa Brewers Union. They may know somebody that do that work as a DIY.

I've never used the 5L kegs but the one thing that I don't like about them is the small hole in the top. It looks like a nightmare to clean but like I said I've never used them. I did research the Tap A Draft system was this close to pulling the trigger.

Looking for TIG Welding in Central Iowa

Have you called Howe Welding or Custom Steel in Ames. Not sure if they can do what you need but they should point you in the right direction.
