You definitely have my prayers and best wishes. I hope everything goes well from here on out.

For those who dry hop, filter and keg - Do you loose flavor and aroma when...

Sorry, I don't really have an answer for you as I've never filtered, I just kind of chuckled at the bolded part and how different everyone's tastes are. I've always been a little suspicious of crystal clear IPA's, my eyes tell me they've been stripped of flavor somehow. Honestly, I have no...

    What are you drinking now?

Drinkin a Vanilla porter that I brewed back in November. Can't be much of it left in the keg, unfortunately as it's really hitting it's sweet spot now, imo. It was a bit higher in ABV than I'd hoped and that has finally mellowed.

    Help with coconut vanilla porter

I've always used glass marbles for weighting down any bags. Easy to keep clean and sanitize as well as being pretty cheap.

    Chicago Breweries

I'm a big fan of Revolution. Lagunitas is impressive, but was unimpressed last time I was there with their offerings at the tap room. Another favorite is Half Acre. Think about maybe heading over to Indiana to check out Three Floyd's. It's not that far. One other option, if you want Chicago...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

If it tastes decent, I will definitely post the recipe. Since this was a "What I have lying around brew, I really want to make sure it tastes good before I post a recipe for it.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Just finished a session IPA. New recipe. Mostly Maris otter, a little Vienna and honey malt. Then Falconers, centennial and citra. Bittered with magnum.

First Brew finally tasted. Oh baby!!

Congratulations and welcome to the obsession. Sounds like you did a great job. My first one, while drinkable, was far from impressive. Had a few off flavors from fermenting a little too warm. ( at that time I thought 70 degrees room temp meant 70 fermenting temp as well.) Looks great and thanks...

Easiest way to increase ABV in Brewer's Best Kit?

This is kind of what I was thinking. 7 - 8% is actually getting up there compared to what some of the people of a "Mixed crowd" of beer drinkers might be used to. I think the focus should be more on a well balanced drinkable beer than trying to see how much alcohol you can pack into it.

How many gallons of homebrew in 2016?

    1219.5 + 6 gallons of a centennial base APA ______ 1225.5

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Gonna brew a simple, sessional pale tomorrow. Marris Otter and a little bit of honey malt. Going with Magnum for bitter, then .5 of centennial at 10, 5 and 0. I actually might throw a tiny bit of Falconers flight I have in on the 5 and 0 additions as well. I have a little bit left in a vacuum...

Brew Supplies Poll - You deserve another beer for contributing.

I get my grain and yeast from the local shop. I will also buy equipment like buckets, siphoning, smaller things as well and carboys there when needed also. Their prices are fairly competitive, especially when you add shipping to online orders. They don't keep pounds of hops in stock though, so I...

    Beer Barrel Aged Whiskey

I met a rep for this at Chicago Gourmet back in September. They had this there and were dishing out plenty of it. Really tasty stuff, almost has a creaminess to it. Anyways, the story the rep said is that the local brewery takes Jameson's used barrels and ages their stout in it. Then in turn...

    Home Brewing = Saving Money?

Yes, time is an issue, but is it really a cost? How much does it cost you to watch TV, or sleep? I have done plenty of things to save money. My own brake jobs, re-roofing my house. I didn't take time off of work and no money came out of my bank account for my time, so it didn't cost me money...

Finally opened the lid on my first batch and took a picture

What is this method? Getting a good seal on your bucket is probably not the biggest deal during initial fermentation and high krausen, but once fermentation is over and if you let the temp swing that wildly without a decent seal, you can be introducing infections. I've never heard of the CO2...

How many gallons of homebrew in 2016?

Has brewing finally jumped the shark?

I definitely don't see it going anywhere anytime soon. As far as the beer kits go, they've been popping up here and there for well over 20 years now. My first venture into homebrewing was back in 1995, I bought a "Beer MAchine" Similar to Mr. Beer, only instead of bottling, the barrel could hold...

    Pipe smoking, a lost art.

Yeah, I meant that more as a joke. Pipes definitely leave the best room note of any burned tobacco and they certainly don't fill a room with smoke like cigarettes and definitely cigars do.

Leading a meeting - print handouts or not?

IMO, it only really works well, if you then take the time to read back to all the attendees, exactly what you sent them, word for word as it reads. Weather they printed it out or not, weather they read it or not, you sent that to them. Assume they read it and please, don't waste more time by...
