    Exploding Bottles!

Oh and 3 out of the 4 bottles were Sierra Nevada Torpedo bottles. I don't know if that means anything, but I'd say their bottles can handle as much pressure as other bottles. -Sapp

    Exploding Bottles!

Fellas, So I decided to take everyones advice today after waking up from working all night. Apparently right before I woke up (1pm) my wife came and told me that she heard another "pop" while I was sleeping and suspected another beer bottle exploded. Sure nuff, when I walked in yet...

    Exploding Bottles!

Fellas, Finally experienced my first exploding bottles the other night and then again tonight. I was home on my lunch break and it was about 3:00am when I heard what sounded like a gunshot in the other end of my house. I grabbed the ol' pistola and headed over to take a look. At first...

    My first homebrew(noob activity documented)

To the OP, I am also a newb and I am only on my 4th batch. However, I did do Mr. Beer for a few years before so I knew the baby steps. I bought How to Brew which was a great help and filled in all of the blanks. My last batch was partial grain and was really fun. Although I worried...

    What's the worst homebrewing SMELL?!!!

A week!? Ha! I had a stinker in July of 2005 that had been there three months with no ac...and he was a chihuahua breeder and all the dogs ate his soft tissues off then died of starvation after canniblizing each other :0 88888. Now that was a nasty smell. As far as home brewing goes...

Occupying oneself while beer is fermenting

This is what I do in between. When I'm not making my own beer, I am rolling my own bullets and hitting the range! I also find that keeping a day to day fermentation log makes it go by faster. -Sapp

How much priming sugar? I'm ready to bottle

Cool thank you very much...I was think that didn't seem right at all. I am using old Weihenstephaner, Hacker-Pschorr and Paulaner bottles. I have found the labels are the easiest to remove on these bottles than any other I have used...plus I like the treat inside before cleaning! -Sapp

How much priming sugar? I'm ready to bottle

Thank you very much fellas...I think after taking 3 gravity readings over the course of 3 weeks, I am sitting at 4.75 gallons give or take a small amount. I will take your advice and use 4.5-4.75oz of sugar. I like carbonation, but not over carbonated so I think sticking to the lower end will...

Working on Schofferhofer Grapefruit clone recipe

***UPDATE*** Ok since bottling, I have allowed the bottles to condition for 2 weeks before trying my first one. I am sad to say that the results were horrendous. Prior to adding the Squirt, the Hefeweizen was absolutely perfect...smelled great, tasted even better and had a beautiful color...

How much priming sugar? I'm ready to bottle

My Bavarian Hefeweizen is ready to bottle today. I am not sure if different recipes call for different amounts of sugar, but I know my most recent Triple Hoped Ale required 3.0oz. Here is my recipe and I would like to know how much sugar yall think I should use. Thanks Bavarian Hefeweizen...

My very first original recipe - Let's hope it's not a disaster!

Jim: I am not fermenting at 75f, only pitched at this temperature. I seemed to have great sucess with the other yeasts when pitched at this temp. The room I ferment in stays at about 66f give or take, so for the entire 3-4 weeks it never goes above 70f. Copbrew: I have heard that...

My very first original recipe - Let's hope it's not a disaster!

Fellas, In the last three batches, I feel that I have learned a ton. I have educated myself on the hop varities, yeast strains, sanitization practices and everything else I could read about. So after making 3 batches, I felt that it was time to just make something up with stuff I had...

Working on Schofferhofer Grapefruit clone recipe

OKay fellas, I wanted to update the thread. I just bottled it today. I followed the brew store owner's directions to the T and my 2.5 gallon batch first measured 1.061 and today measured 1.012. I decided to bottle and added 2 gallons of "Squirt" soda, which was the closet thing to a real...

    Batch #1 - Update w/ hydrometer readings

Union, Its a 3/8" auto siphon. I also have several 1/2" bottling wands for bottling. I have a 55 gallon Rubbermade container where I sanitize all of my stuff when I brew and bottle. I also finally got some StarSan, so goodbye One-Step! As far as the priming sugar goes, it was a...
