    Siphoning Methods

There is a method I've recently read about and tested today, and it works perfek! No lips around the siphon either. Invert both ends of the siphon to make a U shape, and pour some water into the output (don't fill the entire tube, just about a 1/4 of the voume will do). Now put the racking...

    Siphoning Methods

Not being tight or anything... but is there a way to make an auto-siphon yourself? That might be an interesting side project. I fancy a challenge :) I sucked the siphon on my last batch... You could call it a novice mistake but I had no problems. Maybe I just have an extremely sanitary mouth :)

    contaminated beer?

The best advice I've had from this website is as simple as "Don't worry, have a homebrew!" When I got paranoid about contamination it promted me to keep peeking inside my container... but yeah, doing that is gonna increase the chance of infection :cross: Just wait and see how it turns...

    Siphoning/Priming question

I am currently on my second batch, a Muntons Mexican Cerveza and it's nearing the end of primary fermentation. I do not intend to rack to secondary, but straight to a keg for priming. I want as little sediment as possible in the keg, and so i was contemplating using a filter around the output...

    Online homebrew retailer

Very professional looking, but not a huge amount of information for first time brewers, for example, in "Step 1: Mixing and Boiling", you mention "Pour the contents of the pot into your sterilized primary fermentation bucket " There no mention of what to sterilize with, and many beginners...

    Priming Sugar...

My first batch, and after going from primary straight to bottle priming ( using corn sugar ) 2 days ago, the sugar has suddenly decided to collect in the bottom... My temptation is to shake it, but after the valuable advice i had had and read about on this forum (:D) I have decided against it (...

    Alcopops...

Right, first off, i can't stand these things, you might as well be drinking lemonade. But after stumbling across this recipe, i am quite tempted to make my own (mainly because it's cheap and doesn't take too long to make). But just wondering.... would it actually work??? Required for this...

    PET screw top bottles

One advantage is that they don't explode if you overprime... just gets extremely messy when you open them :)

How long for a primary fermentation?

While we're on the subject... Since my Primary fermentation is taking place in a very crude setup (just a 5 gallon bucket with unsealed lid to allow oxygen in/carbon dioxide out) with no airlocks or anything (I don't even have a hydrometer eeek :( ) I have no idea when primary fermentation is...

    Flavourless first attempt

It could be that you used brown sugar, I've read that using malt extracts for your fermentables improves flavour considerably. For my first batch I'm currently brewing I used a kilo of cane sugar, so I'm not expecting much on the flavour side... it's mainly for the alcohol content :mug: tehe

1st time brew and paranoia strikes...

Right... from all the home brewing artciles, tutorials and how-tos i have read there has been a supreme emphasis on sterylisation, yet I have also read that homebrew isn't as prone to infection as it's made out to be... anyway, me and a couple of friends fully disinfected all our equipment in a...
