    Secondary for 6 months... help

I didn't see any foaming after I added the sugar to the amount I siphoned off. which indicated to me that all the yeast must have settled out. Is there a rule of thumb of how much yeast to add to attain carbonation? Thanks DocScott for your help! Thanks for all your help. MT

    Secondary for 6 months... help

Hey all, I somehow forgot that I had a wheat beer sitting in secondary for 6 months. I siphoned some beer off the top and added some sugar but didn't see any action. How much yeast should I add while bottling to make sure the beer is carbonated? Thanks for all your help... I can't...

DIY Grain Mill Station...Another MOTOR Question

Couldn't you re-purpose one of these guys? We have removed all the plastic casing and used the motor/gearbox/clutch assembly as robot drive motors. You could even replace the trigger with speed control (potentiometer) and test the clutch positions for the torque output. Maybe even a...

Did I miss my OG because of Hops?

Hey all, I think I had a learning experience tonight... My LHBS didn't have and pellet cascade hops (for my Pale Ale) but they had whole hops. So I bought those instead and adjusted my recipe accordingly (this was my first experience with these!). After boiling and cooling I filled up my...

How Big of a BIAB Batch Can I Do?

Thanks for your response. I was actually hoping to do 2 - 2.5 gallon batches to start off with in that pot. Per pound of grain how much water displacement can I expect?

How Big of a BIAB Batch Can I Do?

Hey all, I have seen a lot of BIAB articles and posts and am very interested in trying it out. I have a 3 gallon pot (about 3.5 to the rim). How big of a batch could I prepare in this size pot?.. I am not sure how much water displacement grain produces. Thanks, MT

    Primary Fermenter Size

I have been looking at various sites for a primary fermenter... Austin Homebrew has a 6 gallon fermenter (is this like a typical 6.5 gallon from my LHBS?). I have read that 6.5 gallons are recommended. But I also saw a 7.9 gallon. I plan on doing 5 gallon batches. Thanks, MT

Is Palmer's Cincinnati Pale Ale Good?

Hey all, I plan on brewing Palmer's Cincinnati Pale Ale recipe this weekend (my first brew)... Is this recipe any good? Is it worth brewing 5 gallons of? (I kind of wanted to start using extract and hops then move onto extract, specialty grains and hops after a few brews) I have noticed many...

Pale vs Extra Pale Malt Extract

I have a recipe I am going to attempt that requires Pale Malt Extract. I found a place that sells extra pale Malt extract (about 1.25 lovibond)... If I use that instead of the Pale malt extract how would that affect the batch (generally speaking)? Thanks, MT

    First Temperature Probe Build

I have a Basic Stamp microcontroller right now that I am doing some Prototyping on... I could easily move to a PICAxe or Arduino. I primarily would like to use it for fermentation temperature control. But I was also thinking of using it for holding the water during single temperature infusion...

    First Temperature Probe Build

Hey all, I am planning on making a temperature probe to use when I am brewing... I have seen that many have used the LM34/35 sensors. I am not sure that these are suitable for long lead applications (in excess of 10 ft). Are there any sensors that others are using (in the TO-92 package)...
