    Carboy cleaning - oxyclean?

I use somethign called B-Brite, from the LHBS. A 10-15 minute soak is all that's needed to break up all the nasties. No scrubbing or effort required. I think it's similar to OxyClean, but I've never used OxyClean to make a comparison.

    Lagering question...

Any ideas? I was thinking of running to the HBS during lunch to pick up ingredients..

    Lagering question...

I've had a Pils in the secondary @ 38F for about 2 weeks now, and I was thinking about brewing a Sam Adams clone. Would I be able to raise the temp of my fridge to ferment the new batch w/o affecting the Pils in some way, or should I just brew an ale for the time being?

    nocarbonationfest

Well.. This was made before I had my lagering freezer, so I kept it in a tub of water/ice @ ~60F for about 3 weeks total. I was unable to keep the process going, and it sat at about 70 for another 2 weeks before I bottled it... Thanks, I'll try the dry yeast thing.

    nocarbonationfest

I cracked one of my Oktoberfests... it's flat. :( The lids seem to seal ok, and I added the same amount of corn sugar as I normally do, but yet they're flat. They've been in the bottle since 9/22, so they should have some carbonation by now. Tipping the bottle, down then up, it...

    Dirty Jobs on Discovery

I missed the beginning of the show, but they have him in a brewery right now, cleaning. Hopefully, they'll replay it later so I can catch the entire thing. Edit: Looks like this was shot at The Long Trail Brewing Company in Vermont.

    Cooling the Wort

The one batch I made using that method, I had to wait well over an hr for the temp to drop enough to pitch the yeast... The other 4, I chilled the pot in the sink for 10-15 min before adding the wort to the rest of the water and was able to pitch immediately. I'd rather wait 15 minutes than an...

    How much does it smell?

The Pilsner I have fermenting right now STINKS. It has a very strong sulpher smell. Everytime I open the freezer to check on it, I'm overcome with that horrid smell. But for some strange reason, I stick my head in to get another whiff...

Couldn't wait any longer (tasted first brew)

My new favorite style is pale ale. Easy to brew and ready to drink in 3-4 weeks.

Couldn't wait any longer (tasted first brew)

I'm still a n00b, but they get a LOT better as they age. I just opened one of my first batch, bottled 5 weeks ago. There is a dramatic difference in how it tastes compared to when it was first bottled. Keep brewing more, until you have so much beer you have no choice but to wait. It's the only...

    Black yeast/sediment in bottle?

I just cracked one of the Hefe Weizens I brewed 1.5 months ago (my first batch). They've been in the bottle since 8-23. I only have about 6 of them left, but I noticed that in almost all of them, the yeast/sediment at the bottom of the bottles has turned mostly black. They taste great though...

    Hops tea

What if I'm at home? It's ok then, right? Oh ****.. Those aren't hops! Whoops.

    Hops tea

You think that will work? Hell, I've even thought about smoking them. :o Yeah, I know your pain. I didn't realize 1lb would be as much as it is. I had to toss some food to make room. Hops > food, right? Good thing I didn't order 5lbs like you. :p But I thought about it...

    First Pilsner

Ok, tard questions, round 2. I got some good yeast on Monday, which I let do it's thing until last nite - the smack pack was fully inflated, so I went ahead and brewed the pilsner. I added the yeast, and put it into my lagering fridge @58F around midnite. This morning at 9am, I noticed no...

    MIA: Carbonation

Go buy a $8 Rubbermaid 25g tub and put the bottles in there until you're sure they're ok. If they do blow up, it will be easily contained and easily cleaned.

    Hops tea

They were delivered here, so I decided to make use of them. I put about 4 hops cones/buds/whatever into some hot water and let them steep for about 10 min, then strain them out with a fork. Add sugar, ignore the other floaties, and enjoy. I found some interesting info about the medicinal...

    Hops tea

I just got a lb of Cascade hops delivered to me from hopsdirect. Since I'm sitting here at work smelling these lovely hops, and can't have a beer, I decided to steep some hops and make tea. It's quite bitter, but sugar fixes that right up. I like it. People at work here think I'm crazy.. lol
