Some damage to my Willamette leaves...

I don't know if these two things are related... my inclination is that they are. I have some leaves that have partially died off: http://www.flickr.com/photos/brewmeone/2595627954/in/set-72157604218426791/ I've also noticed some small holes in some of the other leaves. Upon looking closer...

Anyone been to the Heineken factory in Amsterdam or Carlsberg in Denmark?

The heineken brewery tour is pretty cool. I went there in September 2006. I think last time I was in Amsterdam (February) they had it closed for renovations. So if you went there recently.... you probably got to experience a new "Heineken Experience". BTW... did they still have the...

So I'm going to Belgium, whats the scoop?

+1 on Gollem! The Cracked Kettle across the way is also a great place to pick up some beer to take home. They have Westvleteren every now and then. For the best beer selection... definitely hit the Bierkoning. They have a great selection of beers... and glassware. I'm heading over in...

So I'm going to Belgium, whats the scoop?

How long are you going for? Are you bringing a wife or girlfriend? I've been to Brussels a couple times now... my girlfriend is in Amsterdam for work for a few months... so we've driven there a few times. A couple things to do that I've done... - Go to Brugge... especially if you are...

Fishing line instead of hop twine?

OK... so I bought the hop twine from freshhops.com. I live in a condo/townhouse... and am growing a willamette on our back patio. I want to run a line from the pot on the balcony to the second floor bedroom. I'm contemplating using some fishing line... perhaps 50# test instead of the hop...

    Diagnose this

Is that beer... or a batch of LSD??? Sorry man... I'm no expert... but it doesn't look good at all. Also... looking at the saran wrap... there are some strange brown spots as well. I'm curious what it smells like. Also... if you taste it... is there any vinegar taste?

Cleaning new cooler MLT before first use?

I gave both of my 10 gallon drink coolers a nice wash with dish soap and hot water before the first use. I didn't sanitize... but gave it a thorough washing with really hot water.

    Freshhops twig?

Lot's of great replies in this thread. I was going to try growing it anyhow... but it is definitely reassuring to see so many others have had similar rhizomes and found success. Hopefully something nice will pop out in the next couple weeks.

    Freshhops twig?

Thanks... trust me... I planted it yesterday... about a day after I got it in the mail. I just wasn't sure if I was wasting my time or not. Wish I would've taken a picture of it...

    Freshhops twig?

Hey... I'm a hops growing newbie... I ordered three rhizomes from Freshhops: Cascade Centennial Jumbo Willamette The Centennial looks pretty good... a couple white nobs on one end... some very small roots also on the rhizome. The jumbo Willamette looks really good... probably...

OK... how long SHOULD bottling take?

I must be making the process harder than it needs to be. I do rinse out the bottles after I drink out of them... here's my current process. -Fill sink with hot soapy water -Fill bottling bucket with hot water and star san -Scrub bottles in sink using bottle brush -Rinse bottles -Soak...

OK... how long SHOULD bottling take?

The reason I'm asking this... is it always seems to take me 3 hours (or more)... between cleaning bottles, sanitizing bottles, siphoning, filling, then cleaning up. I'm borderline OCD with the sanitizing and cleaning using extremely hot water and star san. I want more than anything to...

Belgian Beers - What is all the hype?

To be honest with you... I was a huge fan of german brews... I still am. But... in recent trips to Europe... I've had the opportunity to explore some of Belgium. It's pretty easy to appreciate belgian beer... and it's diversity of styles by visiting Belgium. I found that while I love...

    Sam Adams Longshot Competition...

Has anyone here entered this contest this year? I've actually never entered a homebrew competition... but decided to give it a shot this year and entered LongShot. I submitted a Nut Brown Ale aged with oak cubes. I don't see myself winning... but wanted to see what the judges would say.

first try at a belgian wit

From Mosher's book... he recommends adding some chamomille. I did add some... when I made an extract + grain wit a few months ago... it turned out pretty good. As for quantity... I'm unsure. I used teabags of it... 2 teabags should do.

Ideal dry hopping hops for IPA?

I'm brewing a rye IPA this weekend... I was originally going to dry hop with Williamette... but after talking to my local homebrew guy... he actually made the same exact recommendation... 1/2 oz. Simcoe and 1/2 oz. Amarillo. Either it's really good advice... or Bob is on this message board...

    Anybody Used Tea Leaves?

I brewed a batch of Belgian wit ale a few months ago... and one of the ingredients I added in the last 15 minutes of the boil was chamomile tea. While it's not a true tea, it's an herbal tea, and it added a nice little accent to the taste of the citrus undertones of my white beer. I'm sure...

    Gemütlichkeit

OK... so I've got the sig updated now. Notice nothing in primary at the moment... just moved a belgian dubbel to secondary on Monday night. Does anyone here go to Oktoberfest in Munich? I've gone the last two years... and will be returning again this year. Also... something else that...
