    I am SUCH an EAC!

I have a friend that always says "I cant stand dark beers", but, and this is the funny part, he considers dark beers anything that isnt straw or golden colored a dark beer. He drinks Coors only, and if its darker than that, its a dark beer. Even a darker colored lager to him is a dark beer...

Is One Step by Logic a cleaner or sanitizer

One Step is a percarbonate cleaner. It is made from sodium carbonate, and a bleaching agent that releases hydrogen peroxide. It isnt a bleach, and is more suited for brewing. For sanitizing, try Iodophor, Star San or Sani Clean. Remember, there are cleaners, and there are sanitizers. All...

sanitizer smell in primary bucket - safe to use?

B-Brite is a straight percarbonate cleaner, and I would bet that wasnt what was in the bucket. Was the bucket stained as well? Oxyclean is a percarbonate as well. Percarbonate cleaners are made from sodium carbonate, and they add a bleaching agent that releases hydrogen peroxide when you add...

New here, please help with my list of stuff

To me, the best thing is to pick up a couple simple kits to get your feet wet. Pick up a cream ale, blonde ale, or pale ale kit and try to just focus on making a good, drinkable batch. Believe me, as with most of us, it doesnt take to long to find out how easy the process is, and what steps you...

New here, please help with my list of stuff

Easy Clean / One Step are simple percarbonate cleaners. No rinse, easy to use, just add to warm water and you have a nice no rinse cleaner to use on brew day. Iodophor is an iodine based cleaner/sanitizer/germicide. This is used to truly sanitize equipment. Since it is iodine based, it will...

    Splitting and saving yeast

This is exactly what I was wanting to know about. Thanks. Now about the glycol solution...how are you doing this? The ice pack is good, in my opinion for warmer climates, summer time or to just help keep it cool. Last thing you want is the pack getting too hot during shipment. As for...

    Splitting and saving yeast

Thanks for your input, and I do understand all that already. What I am wanting to know is if it is viable to continuously propagate a yeast strain by splitting starters, storing, and repopulating the yeast later, then splitting again. Kind of keeping a strain alive as long as possible.

Pick up an Auto Siphon as well. They save you lots of time and problems transferring from primary to secondary fermenters. I use mine all the time and NEVER have had a problem.

    Splitting and saving yeast

I had posted this at the tail end of another thread, but want to give it a little daylight of its own... I still have 4 packs of Pac-Man left. Ive re-used yeast cakes many times, but do not want to merely rack onto the yeast cakes over and over. I want it cleaner and fresher. Has anyone just...

how long for ferment to start

Depending on the yeast you used and the amount pitched, it can be anything from a few hours to a couple days. When I brew, I make starters everytime to make sure I have a good amount of yeast at the ready to start chomping on sugars. And I still can get lag times for the fermentation to...
