Hello! Long time CT lurker finally coming out!

Are you going for BIAB with your first all grain or ready for sparging? I'm a big fan of biab myself

    Need some help ...

yes, I'd shut off the valve coming off the regulator and open the tank valve completely. then spray the bejesus on the tank with star san and watch for the bubbles. can be from anywhere, but I'd still suspect the regulator to tank connection. :mug:

    Krausen or something else

looks like gunk that never dropped out. cold crash it for three days and i bet it'll drop to bottom. If it tastes good. drink it!

    Let beer age after secondary?

It often seems the best tasting glass is the last glass from the keg. For me that would be at about the 2 week mark. Aging is good, but I only worry about it when its not tasty from day 1. I tend to get a tinny off taste in some of my lighter beers in the first week of carbonating in the keg...

    Need some help ...

I've got regulators from mircomatic and keg co, both have built in white washers, and I lost about three tanks trying to find a leak with the micromatic one (before my keezer). I finally started using the fiber cardboard looking washers my co2 place gave with every refill and i didn't have any...

First time cider maker, what yeast goes good with cider?

I've gotten a nice crisp cider with just pouring the 5 gal of apple juice over a yeast cake from just about any ale. American Ale II from wyeast worked great. Cider isn't real picky it seems...

    Weizenbier extract fermantation temperature?

I used a French saison yeast from wyeast and fermented at room temp (75 or so) and I got a great banana ester flavor to my last wheat.

    Brewer's Edge Mash & Boil

I did my first half a dozen brews with the grain tube, this is my first without- and there is way more room for circulation with just the bag and no tube.

    Brewer's Edge Mash & Boil

The extra large hop bag with the drawstring is so much better than the long tube sock I've been using

    Brewer's Edge Mash & Boil

It'd be like pouring hot water over a pumpkin. You can see in the photo that my collander is just big enough to fit the bag. I like the partial sparge idea, just need a bigger strainer. I wonder if my wife would mind if I welded up some sides on her strainer. I'll call it a Mother's Day gift!

    Brewer's Edge Mash & Boil

FWIW the beer I'm doing today is EdWort's Bee Cave Haus Ale. It's about a 12 lb. grain bill. I started the mash at six gallons and ended up at 5.5 gal. I'll get back up to 6.5 gal for the boil by adding a gallon of boiling water from the stove while the M&B is heating up to 212.

    Brewer's Edge Mash & Boil

So the grains are in the bag sitting in the collander and now I do a little squeezin. Have some heavy duty kitchen gloves and I give it a moderate effort, but not worried about those last few ounces...

The Keezer formally known as freezer!

Don't know if there are Goodwill type stores in Germany, but for a buck you should be able to buy anything electronic that has a big block for a plug. They usually are converters down to the D.C. Low voltage those fans run on

    Brewer's Edge Mash & Boil

my new Wilserbrewer bag on the mash and boil. I decided to forget the basket. To strain I'll lift the bag and put a collander under it and then squeeze. More pics to come at that point.

    Session IPA (advice appreciated)

If you're using dry yeast, pitch the whole pack if you're pitching directly. Less yeast is never better and dry yeast will not store after it's opened, so unless you're trying to do two batches from one pack, pitch the whole thing. ps. if you are trying to do two batches, better to make one...

The Keezer formally known as freezer!

I pulled my fan from on old desktop computer. I'm running a tower on my keezer, so i have a fan blowing cold air up the tower tube. I used any old 12v plug, the higher the amps (1.2 or 5.1- whatever) the faster the fan blows.

    Weizenbier extract fermantation temperature?

i would aim for 68-70. On the danstar website it says this yeast can be used at 62 and above but performs best at traditional ale temps. Especially if you're going for the wheat esther yeast profile for this beer, I'd keep it out of the lager temps.

When to pull the hop bag?

Just thought I'd put a quick question out there for those using a hop bag in their boil. Right now I'm leaving the bag in the kettle with the immersion chiller all the way down to 80 degrees F and ready to transfer to the carboy. I figured I'd leave it in contact as long as possible to get the...
