Great news we are no longer just hobbists

Ah, ok. That makes more sense, then. Sad that the average forum poster tends to word things better than a lot of "journalists" do.

Great news we are no longer just hobbists

"The amount of humulone in beer is so small that a person would have to drink 12 ounces – or about 30 cans – of beer in order to get its protective effect." Hmmm. Wonder how many cans the author consumed before writing this article...

Well, just finished my first brew day.

Sometime overnight, things slowed to a crawl. Guess the yeast wore themselves out with the crazy fermentation they were doing yesterday. lol Sniffed the airlock this morning. Yesterday all I smelled was fuggles. Today it smells like beer. :rockin:

Why do big breweries mainly create lagers?

I hate living in BFE. :(

Funny things you've overheard about beer

Got that one from my sister when I told her I was going to get into homebrewing. Led to an impromptu explanation of the difference between fermentation and distillation. :)

Why do big breweries mainly create lagers?

This. The McDonalds analogy is one that often comes to mind for me as well with BMC.

How dumb are your state/province's liquor laws?

Here in Illinois, it's mostly governed on a township-to-township basis. Thus, out here in BFE, you have to drive a little ways if you want to get anything on a Sunday. In my town, there are only two liquor licenses, and they're both held by the 2 bars we have here. A big part of the reason I...

Well, just finished my first brew day.

It was still a little warm for my liking an hour or so after pitching, (72) so I moved it into the garage for a couple hours last night before bringing it back to the spot I planned to put the bucket in. Could actually hear it starting to take off sometime around 2 a.m. :mug: Checked it a...

Well, just finished my first brew day.

Just sitting here basking in the lovely malt smell that now fills my apartment and started hearing "burps" from the airlock already. :rockin: Definitely didn't expect it to start that quickly.

Well, just finished my first brew day.

And it went pretty well, I think. I made the Midwest Porter extract kit. Only had a couple things go wrong. First, forgot to pull the ring off the jug of LME and it fell in. :smack: Made me glad I was about to boil the whole works for an hour. The other thing was, it took quite awhile to...

    Midwest Porter kit question

Thanks guys. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't a misprint in the instructions, since the calculated IBU seemed a bit low.

    Midwest Porter kit question

Hey all, while waiting for my shipment from Midwest to get here (due Wed), I decided to look over the directions again to make sure I'm squared away on what I need to do. The kit comes with an ounce each of Fuggles and Willamette hops, and says to use the Willamettes for the bittering. This...
