    Help getting FG below 1.020

Excellent, thanks for that! One of the issues with the high FG was that I felt the mouth feel was a little heavier than it should have been. I think I might try this and see what happens.

    Help getting FG below 1.020

srm775...What is beano and how does it reduce the gravity? Does it impart any flavors or side effects? BierMuncher...I am trying to get to 150 and this process seems to get me there (according to this thermometer anyway)...but I still a have a feeling that my mash temps are off and the...

    Help getting FG below 1.020

I think you're probably right about the thermometer. What does everyone use to measure their MLT temp? I'd like to get something permanent and not have to remove the lid and drop in a thermometer every 15 mins or so. Thanks Mew!

    Help getting FG below 1.020

Hi everyone, I have done my fourth all-grain and I am having trouble getting my FG down below 1.020 on every one of my batches…OG on the last one was 1.055. I am thinking that it is either my water or my mash temps. My latest was EdWort’s Haus Pale Ale. I followed the recipe exactly...

Good place to buy bulk grain in NH/MA?

I shop at www.nfghomebrew.com. in Leominster, MA. He has good prices on smaller amounts of grain (never bought bulk, although I have seen the 50lb bags). Check out the website as he has limited hours.

going back home, trying to find LHBS, help?

There is one in Leominster, west on rt2 from Groton, called NFG Home Brew Supplies. Really only open a few hours during the week, but good grain prices and a really nice guy. http://www.nfghomebrew.com/ A couple of others, getting to be a distance from you though... One that I used to go to is...

computer fan/project box to cool draft tower; advice on size of fan?

Above in the thread there was some discussion about the cooled faucets (rather than the cooled lines) actually providing the most benefit. Not sure if the method you are thinking of would address this issue and might still result in the initial foam...have no idea either way, just thinking.

Ouch! I'm used to the bias though! A lot of Deere green in my family as well :D

computer fan/project box to cool draft tower; advice on size of fan?

Here is a couple of shots of what I ended up doing. You can see that the beer lines go into the plastic air tubing and is sealed with some electrical tape. It seems to work pretty well and I don't have an issue with foamy first pours. The only issue has been condensation during humid weather, I...

    Upgrading my web site.

Mine is very much a work in progress. It's not a blog format like some of the others, more of the traditional web page I guess. www.oldironbeerworks.com

I've been trying to restore an old farm tractor for years, but the finances are too tight to make any headway. Homebrewing is far more suited to a small budget. :mug:

    Keggin' Root Beer

Thanks, I should have mentioned that the questions was in regards to root beer. You mentioned 35' for a faucet...I'm guessing get 50' for the picnic tap and cut back from there? Or is that overkill? I bought a dedicated corny for root beer...it even had a "Root Beer" sticker on it when I...

How much additional length do you suggest if I were to use a picnic tap over the faucet?

    Green River Brew Fest

The_Bird has a thread going here about the festival https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=35004 ...it's probably best to post over there to keep all the interest in one spot. I am trying to weasel out of an obligation that I have late in the afternoon...but I'll be going, just...

Festival of Ale - Worcester MA - 9/15/07

It's very pricey...especially for 3 hours. I think it's because of the atmosphere and I'm sure it goes to support the museum as well. Excellent museum by the way...cool selection of historical battle armor and weaponry. ~ Sully

Festival of Ale - Worcester MA - 9/15/07

In Worcester MA there is an Armory Museum that is having a beer festival on September 15th from 6-9pm. It is a bit pricey for me $35 in advance for non-museum members and $45 at the door (all samples are included). http://www.higgins.org/Calendar/Ale/ Breweries include: * Allagash...

    dry yeast starter

Maybe someone else can chime in here, but I don't think using a starter with dry yeast is a good idea. I believe you are supposed to re-hydrate them. ~ Sully
