    IPAs and their hops

Well, on stone's website, they do mention hops per beer.. whether this is the complete list or not, who knows. Which, they clame both the IPA and Ruination are the same, Magnum and Centennial. I know i've had ruination, but to be honest, I can't remember if i thought it better than the normal...

    IPAs and their hops

Look around for Pliny the Elder Clones.. there's one in Jamil's Brewing Classic Styles book, and several on the internet. Including here https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f12/imperial-ipa-recipe-13758/index2.html

    IPAs and their hops

Good thing I don't have cats then ;) I have had Alesmith's IPA, and it's also on the like side. Stone IPA, and, most of Stone's hoppy items, I just don't like at all.. maybe it's the Magnum. Anyone know of another Magnum loaded beer out there that I could confirm this with?

    IPAs and their hops

As a San Diegan, I've found there's two kinds of IPA, II IPA, and III IPA's... ones i like vs one's i don't :D :D I'm suspicous that the latter are loaded with a particular style of hops that I don't like. I like: Alpine Pure Hoppiness/Exponential Hoppiness, Duet Pliny the Elder / Younger...

    Avery's Kaiser Imperial Oktoberfest

I liked it the first time I had it, but that's while I was at an Avery dinner pairing and it was somewhere around course 3. I've since bought it, and it is only ok starting from sober.

    San Diego Beer-scene

Ah too bad you're not going to be in town on the 25th.. ballast point is doing their anniversary party, which looks like it's going to have a good collection of local beers (not just ballast point). A central place to watch, but by no means complete, list of SD Beer festivities (casks and...

how to get Apfelwein sweeter/less dry?

As someone who just this weekend started making my first apfelwein, using the WLP300 Hefe yeast due to some of the reviews, I can answer yes.. you do need to use a blow off as it behaves as it does with beer... high krausen, especially with the Hefe yeasts which are notorious for this. This...

High FG + plastic taste related?

pumpkin spice ale, no actual pumpkin... just spices...so just a regular ale in actuality. I'm not drinking it in under 3 weeks.. yes still young, but this is technically week 4 in bottle, hence waiting at least till now before even asking about it for the very reason of trying to avoid...

High FG + plastic taste related?

I have the latest water report from the san diego water supply, so i can check that. What I don't know is how much of it is still valid after it goes through a faucet mounted water filter? Yeah the bucket is a brew bucket from the LHBS. Figured it was good to "pickle" it for 24 hours before...

High FG + plastic taste related?

So, I brewed a pumpkin* spice ale last month that did not go so well.1.050 starting gravity. The problem is, as that is batch #5, i'm still changing a lot of things each batch trying to get my process down. I think batch #6 went a lot better, but haven't bottled yet :) Variables this time...
