    Starters are great on any brew, because it lets you know that the yeast are viable and help ramp them up in order to consume all of the fermentable sugar without stressing the yeast and causing off flavors....if you don't have the ability to create a starter, 2 packets will get you there as well.

    Setesh is right on point, I filter my wort because I wash my yeast.....so keeping an inch of sediment out of my trub helps out a lot in that process.

    Yeah your fine, you may want to consider filtering your wort as you put in your fermenter.

    Your correct, you use them to prevent a stuck sparge....I usually add the rice hulls before the grain

    The oil on the top is from using graham crackers with by products that the yeast cannot eat....try to skim it off or leave it with the trub when you bottle/keg

    Their is only slight variances from light to dark brown sugar, so you will be fine....I add my brown sugar to the boil, so that I get 100% extraction from it, where as if you add it to the mash, a small portion could get caught up in the grain (could, don't have data on several brews done both...
