    New Keezer and Collar Question

Thanks for the opinions guys - I keep going back and forth from inside to outside. I'm "thinking" about building a mount on the inside over the hump that will hold the 5' C02 Tank in such a manner that the gauges will be collar level. The total setup will be Tank->2 gauge regulator->3 reg...

    New Keezer and Collar Question

I scored an XL freezer and 10 corney kegs from CraigsList this week and want to finish the collar while waiting the arrival of all my gear. 1) I have 8 shanks and 7 Perlick faucets (Saving 1 for a Nitrogen setup) coming in and hope to build the collar while waiting. Searching here on HBT...

Stuck lids on old soda kegs

I picked up 10 corney's today, 2 with soda well over a year old. I took them way out back so I could dump the soda down a drain, and after bleeding the pressure the cap still wouldn't budge. Nearby was a river stone that lines the garden - took three quick raps to break the seal. Not as...

Missed OG. Pissed off. Please advise.

This reply might be a tad late given your post was at 2:54pm but here goes. If it were me, I would dump 1/2 gallon to leave 5gal in your primary. I would then calculate how much DME I need to make up the 16 pt difference and boil up a really thick wort (the 1/2 gallon your now shy) and add...

Grain showed up, was mashed, and had its butt kicked!!!

I have 4 AG brews under my belt, todays was a 11 gallon Dunkel. But I spoke too soon, mistakes turned this into an all day event. Here is my brew-diary. Date: 4/19/09 Recipe: 1016a 11 gal Target SG 1.056 Mash: 9:35 Flame On 8 gal. 65° 10:13 Flame Out 10:17 Start Transfer 180°...

Grain showed up, was mashed, and had its butt kicked!!!

Nice Job. I'm at just under 7 hours for a 10 gal batch.

Thats not the problem this time - I just started AG. I crush outside, but I do measure in the same room I currently have 30g in the fermenter - bad idea?

    Iphone App

I have Brew Pal. I like it for what it does, and for $.99. I think it includes Sparge Pal so I didn't bother downloading that. I wish it would allow me to import a recipe instead of having to build one on the phone. BJCP styles is also great. I didn't care for HBCalc much.

I may do that if I trust handling them long enough to get them in the fridge to cool them. If I "REALLY" liked the beer I would be more motivated - but its so-so. But then, my drinking pipeline (signature reflects has been not current drinking pipeline) is down to a couple choices - so I just...

No floaties or ring and beer taste like beer (unfamiliar and not my favorite - a new recipe). The standard priming sugar sold by LBHS - pretty sure its corn sugar. They were 12oz from some commercial beer - tall neck seemed ok. The beers really are ubercarbed so I'm not convinced its a...

I think I agree, given the brew notes. Shame - I'm drinking a 1ltr flip top that I was brave enough to chill and it tastes acceptable (not sure what a kolsch is supposed to taste like). Do you think its safe to chill all the 12 oz's? I have a bunch of them but after seeing how high the bottle...

    Bottle bomb postmortem

My brew notes don't say - but my practice is to only write down temperature corrected readings - so I believe the readings to be true gravity. We "dunk" the hydrometer several times because it has a tendency to stick to the side of the tube.

Can you take a peek at this brew history and help me pinpoint where I went wrong. I think I know and will comment after history. Base Recipe: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f62/cinco-de-mayo-kolsch-30242/ Actual Fermentables used: 3 lb Pilsner Malt 1.0 lb Vienna 1.0 lb White Wheat Malt...

    Boil time

To the best of my understanding, its about maximum grain extract efficiency and target volume. I fly sparge - so I can up my grain bill and run-off 6.5 gallons for a target 5.5 gallon batch, or get higher efficiency by running off 7.5 and boiling a little longer. I don't think boil time...

    Efficiency Clarification

Thanks for the reply. Your example caused me to dig deeper into BeerTools to understand how it calculated the efficiency. Seems like it uses the same formula as you, but like you suspected the grain data base has different ppg numbers than palmers table. Not sure which is still relevant or...

Igloo 10 gallon for mash tun/lauder pieces

Its really not that difficult and there is a complete parts lists (with part numbers) here: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f51/cheap-easy-10-gallon-rubbermaid-mlt-conversion-23008/. I didn't like the steel braid idea so I got a 10' section of copper pipe, an hand full of elbo's and T's and made...
