Sediment, and other gunk when bottling..

With the thread hijack, I have no idea who's talking to who.

Sediment, and other gunk when bottling..

I just bottled my second batch (Midwest's Autumn Amber ale). My first batch was Midwest's Liberty Cream ale, I used US-05 yeast for both batches and I used irish moss on both batches with 15 minutes left in the boil. when racking to the bottling bucket on both batches, I left close to a gallon...

Diet American Rice Beer (Blonde Ale)

When do you add the rice syrup solids? Edit: Nevermind, pretty sure you add them with the LME

    1st homebrew..Success!

I brewed Midwest's Liberty Cream Ale for my first batch. Bottled it only a little over a week ago. I posted a thread a week ago or so about how I only bottled a little over 4 gallons worth because of sediment, but used 5 oz of priming sugar. I put one in the fridge so I could sample one...

Volume for steeping grains in extract kit

I read somewhere on here awhile back that when doing a full boil, you don't need to steep the grains in the full volume of water. I steeped the grains in the full volume of water on my first 2 batches. Is there a reason for not steeping in the full volume? The reason I steeped at full...

    Does Anyone Else Dislike Hops?

I'm not a big hops fan. I had a 6 pack of Sam Adams Noble pils, drank two and that's all I could drink because it was just too hoppy. Last week I drank a Mr. beer witty monk, then drank a noble pils, and it tasted pretty good, so I drank another. Then I had a Fat Tire and it tasted really...

Bottled my first batch tonight... Some questions.

I bottled my first batch tonight. Midwest's Liberty Cream Ale. I boiled 5 oz. of dextrose in 1 cup of water and cooled to room temp. put it in the bottom of my sanitized bottling bucket, and siphoned the beer from the primary fermenter into the bottling bucket. I didn't wait a full 3 weeks...

    Hydrometer types

Or in my case. The one that broke on my first batch, and the one that broke on my second batch.

    Midwest Groupon is back! (05-APR-2012)

I know a few people who have used the gift certificate for items other than recipe kits. They do make it sound like you have to use it towards a kit, but that isn't the case.

    Midwest Groupon is back! (05-APR-2012)

Haha, definitely addicting and I'm ashamed to admit that between mr. beer and 5 gallon batches, I have 16 gallons fermenting and conditioning, and I have drank exactly one beer so far.

    Midwest Groupon is back! (05-APR-2012)

With the groupon, you get the beer making kit and a recipe kit along with a $25 gift certificate can be used for anything. You don't have to use the gift certificate on a recipe kit.

    Midwest Groupon is back! (05-APR-2012)

This groupon deal was what got me into 5 gallon batches. I had gotten a mr. beer and did a couple of batches. Saw the groupon deal and snatched it up. I brewed my 2nd kit with it last night. Hard to beat, when you get the starter kit, a recipe kit, and a 25$ gift certificate.

    I'm 2 for 2!!

Okay, that's what I wanted to hear. Someone earlier was talking about an adapter, is there an adapter for this faucet to make a wort chiller work?

    I'm 2 for 2!!

Here is a style of faucet like mine.

    I'm 2 for 2!!

It has an aerator, and I probably won't be able to explain this well but: basically the faucet has a small cylinder shaped spout where the water comes out. I assume that the actual faucet has threads on the inside of it where this cylinder screws into so you can't see the threads.

    I'm 2 for 2!!

Very interesting. I'll have to look into that.

    I'm 2 for 2!!

Both times it fell out of the container tube thing that it goes in as I was taking it out. I'm a klutz when it comes to hydrometers. When I get my next one I'm going to wear it on a chain around my neck. Well probably not, I would probably break it and it would slit my throat! EDIT...
