    Head disappears when cold

The beer in the bottling bucket was less then 5 gallons so I went with 2/3 cup priming sugar. Also because my last beer was waaayy too bubbly. In the end, I guess it doesn't matter. The beer is carbed and it tastes good. I was just wondering more for the presentation aspect. Now I know that...

    Head disappears when cold

The carbonation is fine for a RIS. There's just no head if it's been in the fridge.

    Head disappears when cold

Hi everyone, I recently brewed a Old Rasputin clone and have had the beer bottled for about 3 weeks now. If I pull a bottle out of the pantry at about 67 degrees and put it straight into a pint glass then I get about an inch of head on the beer. It disappears fairly quick but that's no...

    Brew #1 in the bottle!!!

Well, three weeks have gone by since bottling my first batch (a Brewer's Best Scottish Ale). Yesterday I stuck a bottle in the fridge and today I popped the top on the first full bottle. I also popped the top on a Belhaven Scottish Ale as a comparison. Carbonation - both beers sounded the...

Got a wild hair - drinking 1st homebrew!

I drank a half bottle from my first batch last night. Posted about it here: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/brew-1-bottle-169482/index3.html Did you get a similar result?

    Brew #1 in the bottle!!!

+1 about Corona. Well, I popped open the half bottle and gave it a try. It had a nice phsshhhh sound when I opened it. Color was dark amber. Started with a decent head but it faded quickly. Poor lacing. It was surprisingly fizzy for being in the bottle only three days. The taste was...

    Brew #1 in the bottle!!!

Thanks, I fished that one out of the pantry and stuck it in the fridge. I'll pop it open later. It's only been in the bottle for 3 days so hopefully it hasn't built up too much pressure. I tell ya, I'm glad I found this forum!

    Brew #1 in the bottle!!!

Wow, thanks for the warning. I didn't know this. I guess I assumed that less beer meant less CO2 and less pressure. I'll have to be careful with that.

    Brew #1 in the bottle!!!

Hey goose, is this a 5 gallon recipe? Will it work with a half boil?

    Brew #1 in the bottle!!!

The hydrometer goes out to 3 places (e.g. 1.034) and then I have to temperature correct so it says to add 0.016 if the temp is 70* (so I get 1.0356). Ha, maybe I'll pop one next week too!

    Brewer's Best Scottish Ale

Well, since the time I posted this I've picked up three Scottish Ales: Oskar Blues Old Chub Belhaven Scottish Ale Arcadia Scotch Style Ale I may pick up a few more in the next three weeks. The goal is to have a taste test when mine is finished bottle conditioning. I'll post results then.

    Brew #1 in the bottle!!!

Well, I bottled my first batch tonight, a Brewer's Best Scottish Ale. Everything seemed to go fairly well but I only got 47.5 bottles out of the batch. I would've gotten 48 if I hadn't taken a sample for measuring with the hydrometer. But it did taste like beer! So, quick question. My SG...

    Star San foam?

I transferred a Brewer's Best Kolsch from the primary to secondary tonight and saw the same "oil slick". I wondered what it was but didn't worry too much. Sounds like it's normal.

What music do you listen to while brewing?

Buddy, SRV, Muddy, any of the Kings, Copeland, Cray, Collins, etc... In short, the blues.

    Weird Bubbles in 2ndary?

My Scottish Ale (first brew) is doing the same thing and I was wondering about it. Thanks for asking! Now I know.
