I'm trying to find a beer for an extreme hop head! ME!

Cool. For a while there I was using Sierra Nevada Pale Ale as my "base" beer for blending, as I'm thoroughly familiar with it and can buy cases for ~$26. Lately though my taste buds aren't taking a shine to it--after all these years of hoppy bears, now it seems too bitter to me! The irony!! It...

I'm trying to find a beer for an extreme hop head! ME!

All this talk about hop bombs... I don't have easy access to a lot of them, but I can easily get most Stone, Russian River and Green Flash Brewing Co. stuff. Anybody ever get into mixing beers?? In some ways I guess that defeats a brewer's purpose, but then on the other hand...how about a...

I'm trying to find a beer for an extreme hop head! ME!

This was kind of a disappointment to me, though it was hoppy and unique. My guess is they're using a different (Belgian?) yeast strain, rather than the usual American/California Ale yeast. It was definitely better after I let it decant a bit in the glass. I wouldn't kick it out of bed though...

Dumping old Star San on the lawn?

Thanks Revvy! I didn't even think to check the site (duh), but I did just now & the closest I came to finding an answer was in a .pdf: So I sent an email to Jon. Meanwhile, I think I'll dump what I have on some scrubby grass that I'm not too worried about.

Dumping old Star San on the lawn?

I know it's expired because it's been sitting in my bucket for weeks--all cloudy. Will it kill all the beneficial soil bacteria or the grass? For that matter, do you think it's safe to dump Star San that's still good onto living plants? thanks, from the desert state of California (though...

Oh crap - hot pad fell off wall into my primary

Oh man that's funny stuff!! I'm laughing over here--mostly because I'm feeling your pain! I almost spit up beer on my laptop just now... :o

    Cold crashing in the bottle

I've actually (unintentionally) frozen a lot of beer bottles over the years, while impatiently waiting for them to chill, and have never had a broken bottle. Rarely, I've had the beer expand & push the cap off a bit. These are usually the typical Sierra Nevada style bottles. Maybe I don't keep...

    Cold crashing in the bottle

All this talk of ice beer reminds me of the basicbrewing.com video where the guys freeze a bit of fermented barleywine wort, in order to concentrate it. I thought that was really neat! They used a plastic milk jug, of course. I loved that James measured the SG of the remaining ice after it...

    Cold crashing in the bottle

Ok, I understand that the ginormity of what I've discovered isn't easily understood at first. So I'll lay it out for all y'all: 1) My freezer is a time machine. I don't need to wait for months while the yeast settles out in the bottles in the fridge. 2) This discovery has redefined the meaning...

    Surprising Aeration Results

I'm definitely interested in getting more oxygen into my cooled wort. After looking at the prices of some oxygen tanks I really began to wrack my brain...hmmm, I own a plastic watering can that has an oxygenator in it. It really does produce a huge amount of tiny tiny bubbles, and a university...

    Cold crashing in the bottle

Well my very 1st batch (IPA) turned out ok, I suppose. Drinkable for sure, and I think doing a full boil was a good thing. I learned a lot by my many small mistakes... One of the mistakes was forgetting to add the Whirlfoc to the boil (actually I have something called Koppakleer, a similar...

    Homebrewtalk.com brewers grow up fast

Relatively new here and just stumbled across this forum in the usual way (Google, click, click, etc.) This forum really is great. I wonder about the other forums out there. I'd hesitate to get too involved in a company forum, just cuz. I'm sure there are other great homebrew forums out there but...

    Bad experience with Williams Brewing

Tell you what, that Williams Brewing really steams me too--I live right here in San Leandro and expected they would be my LHBS, but they only do business by shipping. Man that's infurriating!! But then I see the dancing banana and I just go whepa!! whepa!! :ban: Back on topic, I guess the 30...

    A shout-out from bat country!

good deal on your new (used) kit. I just paid $32 each (total price) each for two extra 6.5 gallon carboys. They're from Italy, as the Mexican carboy factory has shut down. And apparently the USA doesn't know how to make glass bottles. Oh yeah, the price of them has now gone up to $42.50 before...

Noob guy from San Francisco Bay Area

Wow! I'm impressed by the breadth of subscribers here, from all over the US and the world. BEER. It's what keeps up together (not 'love', as the old song would attempt to lead you to believe...) Seriously, I'm so glad to be back into it--and having this *awesome* resource to refer to for all my...

    Hop Mold

One of mine (a jumbo Mt. Hood from freshops!) had what I'd guess is the same white mold, after a little over a week in the fridge with too much moisture in the bag. The mold looked just like the mold you see surrounding brie cheese. I took out the rhizome , did my best to scrape off the mold...

    Amazon.com Coleridge kit issues.

I'm inclined to agree with HSM here, that the ingredients from amazon are quite ordinary and are from the usual manufacturers (Breiss, Coopers, Muntons, Safale, etc.) My "American IPA" kit from amazon just got put in the bottles 2 days ago. I didn't add anything extra, but I did use White...

If it COULD go wrong, it DID

hmmm, in the presence of words such as 'shenanigans', 'debauchery', and 'Tom Foolery'...I think you must be talking about scofflaws and neerdowells. WRT the OP, it is kind of amazing at how the best laid plans can unravel at the most inopportune times. Thankfully I'm pretty good at thinking...
