    How long to wait?

I am just a noob, but by listening to others, i would wait three days standard. If nothing after three, then pitch a dry.

    Murphy's Law 3rd batch...

I am just a noob, but may i recommend two things?? 1) Boil outside or in a garage (use a turkey fryer burner, and TRY to do a full boil if possible) 2) Invest in a wort chiller, they are around $45. I just do a full boil in my garage with a turkey fryer burner and the pot that came with it...

    Starting gravity too low!?!?

Orfy- Thanks for your help. BTW, i started with a little of 6 gallons of water, ended up with about 5 1/2 gallons of wort, so i did go over my target gallons (5) a bit. Either way, i am gonna pour more wort in the flask next time and let it sit for 1/2 hour. I did notice i forgot to take a...

    Aerating wort?

Matter of fact, i spend 18 dollars on a whip stir aerator (look it up) to aerate my wort. Using that STILL didn't create as much head as simply pouring my wort from the pot to my bucket fermenter did. So i think i will just skip that step next time!

    Starting gravity too low!?!?

Honey brown ale: Ingredients 6 lb LME. 2 kind of hops, East Kent Goldings and Challenger. 1 lb honey added at the end of boil. Grains were a combo of 4 different kinds, sorry but i can't remember the 4 different kinds in it. Got the kit from Northern Brewer. I brought water up to 170...

    Starting gravity too low!?!?

Nope, just right before i pitched the yeast, wort was probably around 72-74 degrees.

    Starting gravity too low!?!?

First batch was a honey brown ale. Did full boil with the full amount of LME. Target initial gravity was suppose to be around 1.050. I read it at 1.031. Is this bad?? What could have caused it to read so low??? Not enuf wort in the flask?? too much water or boil too long?? I am...

Beer that sits in fermenter after fermentation complete....good, bad, or indifferent?

Was wondering about this. Let's say your fermentation is done after 5-7 days, but u let it sit in the fermenter another 7 to 10 days. (not using a secondary) Is this better, worse, or doesn't matter either way for the overall product?? I would think it would be better to let it sit a...

    Noob Questions

i am a newbie and i went with a FULL boil and invested in a wort chiller, they are only 40 bucks. I just use a turkey fryer to do the boils. I decided NOT to go with partial boils because i heard the beer is better if u boil the whole thing! Just my $.02

Priming sugar or coopers carbonation drops??

Am a noob, although did a batch a few years ago and noticed it was FAR from highly carbonated. Well, i was wondering, i have my priming sugar in hand but noticed coopers sells these carbonation drops, just put one in each bottle and you are ready to go. I am imagining maybe this is a better...

Did i say I LOVE THIS MESSAGE BOARD!!!!!!!!!! WOW, THANKS FOR EVERYTHING FOLKS!!! That being said, deathbrewer, it's a honey brown ale. Got it from Northernbrewer. BTW, and i promise the LAST thing. I started out with 6 gallons (maybe it was a bit more, i used my fermentation jug and...

Does plain wort always taste terrible???

I used a ingredient kit, so i did steep the grains and all that, but no, i didn't do the mash or an all grain. Oh, i guess one more thing. I put the whole package of hops in........then realized I should have only used 50-75% if doing a full boil, which i did. Will that just make it hoppier...

Does plain wort always taste terrible???

Wait a minute, so i wasn't suppose to drop diesel fuel in the wort???? just kidding.... Thanks for your guidance, i guess i am just not use to that "wort" taste yet. Yes, i did taste it right after cooling, so i guess if none of the nasties would have been in yet anyways, I AM GOOD TO GO...

Hi, just completed my first batch, and we are now bubbling!!! Anywho, everything went great thru the full boil, chiller, and all that. well, sanitized the best i could.......and finally snaked a sample pre-yeast to check the gravity. It's a honey brown ale. Anyway, drank this beginning...
