I thought the same thing yeast_infection. My keg has holes in the wall below the vessel, I thought these were the holes in question.... I'm gonna drill some holes in that rim now.
The theory is that when you use an immersion chiller and or whirpool the wort the heavier fluids stay in the center because it takes more to spin them, the thinner (less trub) wort stays to the outside of the kettle because it is moving faster. When you pickup from the side u get the thinner...
I wouldn't say its for the 'bling' factor, at least for me it wasn't. I recently got a pickup tube for my keggle off of bargainfittings.com. A SS side pickuptube is like $23 bucks. I'm sure you could get a brass/copper combo for ~$10 but I'm not a plumber and I would probably buy the wrong...
Finally got around to brewing this last night. I ended up with 6 gallons at 1.050. The wort tasted awesome. The color and taste are pretty damn close. The chocolate malt put a lot of roasty coffee like flavor in this beer. Can't wait till this is ready to drink.
get a turkey fryer setup and a coleman xtreme cooler. If you search for coleman on here or google im sure you will find plenty on how to make it happen. Be ready to spend some money. I would consider getting a keggle right away. They are awesome, why was $50 bucks on a 7.5 gallon or 6 gallon...
Just ordered keggle #1, with 2 1/2" NPT couplers preinstalled. Now for the fixtures. Is a brass ball valve good enough, or should you use SS for this?
10 gallon AG batches here i come!
In case anyone else is looking for a keggle, Ben is still selling these you can contact him at [email protected]. He has been very quick to respond to emails. Ordered one this evening cant wait to get it!
Ohh ok that makes sense about gravity pulling the wort down.... guess I'll have to put some cinder blocks underneath my burner...
Thanks for the info. Can't wait to get my keggle!
I think its time that I step up to a keggle. I want to do 10 gallon AG batches, and I'm tired of getting boil over in my 6.5 gallon pot.
I'm looking at a keggle that has 2 1/2 fittings welded to it. I want to use one as a ball value and probably use the other as a site glass. My question...
I'm thinking of buying my first keggle through this craigslist posting. And just wanted to make sure that everyone is still happy with their product. Thanks in advance for any information.
Can you remove your hop tower in the winter? How do you lower them with the 4X4 bases orientated that way?
I'm considering a smaller version of your design but thinking of facing the mounting posts the other way to allow them to pivot down during the end of the season.
i usually lose 1 to 2 degrees depending on how often i stir the mash. I guess it would be best to check it once at the end. Just kinda anal about my brewing.
I use a coleman extreme 52 qt for my mash tun, and I don't know if shutting the lid on my thermometer probe is a good idea...... How do must people leave their thermometer in the mash tun, do you cut a hole in the wall of your mash to stick your thermometer through?
Thanks,
Chris

Ill think you'll be fine, although you may want to spend more time re oxygenating the wort before pitching. I use a cheapo fish pump and usually let it work for 30min before pitching, if i did a boil like that i would probably leave it in there for 1hour.
