    question for the experts

I'm fairly new the homebrewing world ( less then 10 batches under my belt). I have seen improvement with each batch and the beer is good but not great. So I'm thinking I wanna switch up my process a bit. I'm currently doing parial extract batches from northern brewer. So what I'm wanting to do...

Calculating target FG and my NB Choco Milk Stout

I brewed that kit and it finished up around 1.022. Generally sweeter stouts finish higher. That pound of lactose adds a couple of points as well.

    Northern Brewer Smashing Pumpkin

Well when I ordered the kit I didn't plan on adding pumpkin so I didn't buy the 6row they suggest you add if you use pumpkin. But after thinking about it I think I'm gonna add about 60 oz of canned pumpkin the last 15 min of the boil to atleast give a little color and extra body.

Pre-hopped Ipa kit tastes like lager...

I also agree with shawnbou a IPA kit with prehopped malt just wouldn't workout very well. Try a partial extract kit where you are making the hop additions on you own so get the flavor aroma you looking for in a IPA.

Pre-hopped Ipa kit tastes like lager...

Not all kits are that way! Northern Brewer puts together some very nice partial extract kits as well as midwest supplies. I've never ordered from austin hom brew but I've heard good things about them also.

    Pumpkin Ale

Well I should of added this is the partial extract kit. In the instructions it says if your gonna use pumpkin to buy 2 to 3 pounds of rahr 6 row. Well when I ordered the kit I had every intention on not using pumpkin so I didn't buy the 6 row. Now I'm thinking I'm gonna use pumpkin cause I want...

What style should I try next?

I would go with a brown ale. They seem to be forgiving of noobie mistakes Just curious what made you move to all grain when your extract beer wasn't turning out good? Seems to me you would wanna master extract brewing before making the leap to AG.

    Pumpkin Ale

I'm going to be brewing northern brewers smahing pumpkin ale this weekend. My question is is it ok to not use pumpkin at all in the recipe? My thinking in that every pumpkin beer I've had in the past it never really had a pumpkin flavor to it. It was always more of the pumpkin spices associated...
