My Porter tastes just like the extract...

I made the Midwest Brewing Power Pack Porter kit last year. I let it sit in the secondary fermenter for 4 weeks after 2 weeks in the primary. Then I let it condition in the bottle for 8 weeks before having one and it turned out extremely well.

It taste like I made Beer :)

I started with 2 buckets, now I have 3 buckets and 8 carboys. It's a good little hobby.

Brewing the Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA clone today

I made this one but varied modified the yeast, used 1 more pound DME and 2 total pounds of grains. Came out very good, one of my favorites.

    Octane IPA

Hmm I have a few IPA's I picked up for Midwest recently and this is one of them. I'll have to see what Yeast I have in the fridge, but sounds like I need to make this one soon based off the posts.

How long is too long in primary?

I know what you mean. I need to clear space by drinking beer, bottling and then brewing more. I have turned half the laundry room into a beer room. With 6-9 batches going at a time SWMBO won't take anymore, unless I expand the house... hmmm.

    IPA's

Nope the recipe calls for a grand total of 1/4 hops every 8 minutes and it's a mix of all the hop types. The dry hop is pretty straight forward.

    60 90 120?

Good prices there for the 120 and the 90, hopefully the place keeps it at that all the time. It is well worth the purchase when your out of home brew :cross:

    IPA's

The recipe called for the following hop schedule 2oz Amarillo 3/4 oz Simcoe 1/2 oz Warrior Split that up where you add 1/4 ounce of hops every 8 minutes. Dry hopping called for: 1 oz Amarillo Hops 1/2 oz Simcoe 1/2 oz Warrior

Anyone Store Their Hops In Foodsaver Canisters?

I use these: Airtight You can buy them at Wal-Mart, JCPenny, Amazon.com, QVC, etc. They work great. Especially if you want to use the hops on a regular basis. I have a food saver also and when I do make a 5 pound hop purchase I will be using that to seal up the contents in 1 pound packs.

    Brewmaster Leaving Flossmoor Station

I heard about this when I finally went there for the first time. I really liked his Ore-Gone IPA. So much that my friend and I bought a pitcher after we had the sample tray.

your opinion on the best wort chiller

I use two things. A copper immersion chiller and I also have a large party bucket that I put icewater in, or this time of year just add water and put outside for 6 hours and it will be mostly ice. With the brew pot in the party bucket and the immersion chiller you can get the wort cooled...

    IPA's

Finally bottled this thing today. After the hops were in ther 2.5 weeks I pulled them out and let it sit for a bit longer. Cold Crashed it for a week and then bottled it. Looks to be 8.6% alcohol. Smells great and I can't wait till it carbs up.

    Dry Hopping

I only use the bag when dry hopping with pellets. If it's leaf hops I pitch it directly into the carboy. So far it has turned out ok. The big issue I have found is if you dry hop over 1 oz, getting it out is hell. A butter knife that is sterilized is what I have had to do.

I've found it..I've found the Holy Grail!

It is boiled over 120 minutes with hops added on a regular schedule over that entire 120 minutes. I have brewed a 90 min clone and measuring out the hops was a pain.

    Good way to avoid boilovers

Last 10 batches I have kept it 3/4 open with the lid only covering part of the pot to keep the roling boil going. With the initial extracts I haven't noticed any issues, but now can't wait until I get to the ones where I have left the lid mostly off to see what the difference is. Once I go to...

    Yep.... I broke my Beer.

I had a Porter where the OG was 1.070 and the FG was 1.025, I was worried, but everyone that has had it loved it and the last 12 beers I have squirled away for my own use.

What Do You Pay For Extract?

Midwest Supplies has a deal where if you buy six 6 pound LME's its at a discounted rate of 2.20 per pound.
  20. H

    Good Extract kits?

Depends on what you are brewing. Midwest Supplies has some good prices and a decent kit variety. AHS has more commercial beer kits. MoreBeer has some decent kits and if you spend more than $59 with them shipping is free. It all depends on what you are looking to brew next.
