    "48 hour mead" updates

Mike - it tasted looooooooverly! :D Shame I've got a 2-litre bottle I can't drink now, unless I find some way of releasing the gas. Standing it in a big jug and letting it overflow into it might be the only way. Actually, I have to admit - there was a party going on the night this batch was...

    "48 hour mead" updates

Pumbaa - yeah, I used an airlock. David - hmm, that could be it. Might try leaving it for a couple of days with an air-lock in, see if that helps. Now the question is - how do I get an airlock in without the whole lot going everywhere? lol!

    "48 hour mead" updates

Just finished siphoning it, and had a quick taste. Got a bit of a 'young mead' taste to it, but then again, it still needs to settle for 48 hours, but.....that....tastes....REALLY nice! It's subtle, but the ginger and lemon juice help give it that little kick. Looking forward to seeing how it...

    "48 hour mead" updates

Thought I'd better take this into its own thread, rather than clog up the 'easy recipie' thread. Here's the recipie I found, and that I'm following with this experiment: Original recipe (Digbie, p. 124): Take nine pints of warm fountain water, and dissolve in it one point of pure white...

    Easy Recipe?

Yeah, that's true......Yip, I did. :D Nothing noticable at the minute, but it's only been going 8 hours. Yeah, that's a good idea. I've got some plastic bottles on standby, I'll use those. Like I say, I'll let you know how it turns out...*kicks her heels*

    Easy Recipe?

Well, I'm giving it a shot now - I'll let you guys know how it turns out! I'm wondering if this is even going to start to ferment, though, with so little yeast added.

    education in brewing?

I'd talk to UCAS. Speak to one of their advisers and say what you want to do with the course, and see what they can suggest. Or speak to your careers adviser. I'm assuming you're in 6th form now, so head to your careers office and see if they can get you work placement or shadowing in a...

    Ninja or Pirate?

Well, considering my SCA title is CAPTAIN Everild Sweordbora (the Eagle) I think you can guess what my response is..... Pirate! We pillage, we plunder. we rifle and loot, we kidnap and ravage and don't give a hoot... On board the good ship Defiant! Except technically we're not pirates...

Help! Cheese and I are in a Nogales Jail.

*blink* Am hearing right? Are you talking Newcastle Brown? If you are....I'm going to laugh SO hard.... Newcastle Brown is brewed in my home town (Newcastle, would you believe....) or at least, it was until they moved the breweries to Gateshead. But if you ARE talking about Newccy Brown...I...

    Easy Recipe?

There's also this old recipie (modified by Master Robyyan) Original recipe (Digbie, p. 124): Take nine pints of warm fountain water, and dissolve in it one point of pure white honey, by laving it therein , till it be dissolved. Then boil it gently , skimming it all the while, till all the scum...

Drinking some mead for the first time

Mead's really expensive here in the UK, though there are some really nice versions. My first mead was Lindesfarne mead (which is brewed on the Holy Island not too far away from where I live up North), and that costs about £10 per bottle (that's something like $19-$20, I think.) But the...
