    What to brew

Bocomo Bay on Wilkes has some home brew stuff, but most of the staff I've met there don't know anything about it. Get your advice here and see what you can buy there. The prices weren't bad last time I was there. I also heard that one of the HyVee stores in CoMo has some ingredients but I...

2nd*Brew day Saturday. First all-grain (BIAB).

Thanks. It seems logical that the grind can affect water absorption into the grain. Is that actually true? Seems that finer grind could mean less absorption.

2nd*Brew day Saturday. First all-grain (BIAB).

Had a great time Saturday with my crew (SWMBO and my buddy Tommy D). Found the recipe for Reaper’s Mild from azscoob and like the reviews and it sounded like a nice session ale for summer coming up. Got the ingredients a week ago at a “local” HBS (the closer ones are not so...

    first brew day

College was more about quantity, unfortunately. I think it was $6/case. Ugh. We did write a song about the beer though. Hoo Dee Hoo!

    first brew day

I chose the kolsch with her in mind. She was having her first kolsch (Schlafly) that afternoon and enjoyed it. I thought it would be a good summer beer. Later in the summer I'll brew a chocolate coffee stout for her to be ready for tailgating season. (We have season tickets for Mizzou) When I...

    first brew day

OK. FWIW, here are some more pics. Best. Brew buddy. Ever. Adding the extract. When you get snow about a month after you should, use it to cool your wort. Take THAT, weatherman! Straining and aerating. Instead of pitching the yeast, I decided to add it to the wort. I...

    first brew day

Got my Williams kit Thursday with the Kolsch extract kit. So what do you do when it snows in Missouri in the first week of spring? Go ahead and brew your first batch!! Spent the morning cleaning and sanitizing, waiting on the water to boil and will start the process. Adding a little lemon zest...

    upgrading

On that groupon deal, if you phone it in you get the deal and they will ship? It becomes less if a deal if I have to drive 500 miles to pick it up. :)

What's the worst craft brew (commercial) you've had?

O'Fallon Rager Red. Tasted like sucking on a band aid. Poured 5 out. And they are twist off so I probably won't even be able to reuse the bottles.

    just wanting to start!

Thanks y'all! I guess I'm not so crazy after all. It seems like if you put in the work ahead of time and get the recipe down with all the steps, it's fairly straight forward. Anyone got suggestions for recipes? I am partial to stouts and IPA and really about anything buy wheats (maybe I just...

    just wanting to start!

I never said 1 gallon. :) but I see the appeal. Just enough ADD to crave that variety. To me, spending 16 hours to produce 2.5 gal each of 2 different beer would be worth it. If only for variety's sake. Different strokes. Anyway, what about my crazy thought regarding starting out with BIAB...

    just wanting to start!

Future home brewer here. Just need to buy the supplies and equipment. I had a few questions, though, and wanted this community’s thoughts on them. I’ve been reading a ton (Homebrewing for Dummies, this forum, I’ve got Palmer’s How to Brew on the way). I’ve watched a...
