Plastic Melted into Wort!!! Oh Noo!

If it sinks the plastic is probably with the trub. I would suggest somekind of fining or straining of product is in order. Sterilize cheese cloth and then the beer through it before bottling. Given the dose I would only be concerned with rough rigid pieces getting into my digestive tract.

    Radio Talk Show Hosts Gone

It is weird in a way, but I think there are some psychological reasons why a radio station wouldn't want a "downer" show. For what its worth I have seen that many times and it is always disconcerting to the avid listener. Radio is a terribly tough business. Punctuatede by the fact that a few...

    Looking for thermo textbook

I am an Airport Engineer, so thermo was equally worthless. But the concepts are good for understand system failure mechanics and other daily life things. What is most unsettling about thermo is how expansive the solution set can be. A braket of 50 to 200 units is an example of an acceptable...

    Krausen question.

So I went to take a picture of the krausen lastnight (by then near completely brown ontop) but my phone/camera was buggy. I fixed it but wasn't able to look at the Krausen again until just now and... no picture because it had already fallen. Is this normal for a krausen to be in place so shortly?

    Krausen question.

Is there a large variablility in Krausen coloring based on yeast strain or fermentables? I think I underpitched a Graff and the Krausen that is forming is a thin (quarter inch) white foam with a 75% covering of brown spots (eight inch diameter) uniformly across the now (slowly) bubbling...

    Looking for thermo textbook

How'd you get a MS in CivE without Thermo? It was required for my BS. Total PITA class too, the prof wrote the textbook and it was riddled (not a pun on ERAU) with errors. Best way to get an A in his class was to have exposed breasts in the front row. That being said the best thing about his...

Another "My first cider" post - likely more problematic than most

I fear the washing because I don't want to introduce anything. I am constantly washing with Idophor it seems. The LHBS set me up with C-Brite and Idophor. I think I will switch to StarSans since that sounds likie the prefered cleaner here. I am a fan of the wisdom of crowds.

Another "My first cider" post - likely more problematic than most

Racked the porter off the yeast today. Washed the yeast (I think I did anyway). Decided to do a Graff instead of a straight cider. 1/2 lb L120 (although Corey wrote 1/4 lb on the bag?) 1 oz flaked wheat Steeped 45 minutes in 0.75 gallon Spring water Sparged with remainder of gallon 2 lbs...

    What are you drinking now?

Bell's Two Hearted (where have you been all my life?) and a very (very very) horrible attempt at honey brown ale that was my first brew ever. I am stuck trying to decide if the flavor is off because of my mistaken use of distilled water in the steel or the high fermentation temps, pretty sure...
