Is it a piece of equipment?

    +1 for awesomeness

    How long to boil dme?

It looks like you need a minimum of 14 minutes of boiling based on your hop schedule. Based on your hop schedule, I would personally probably just boil for about 20 or 25 minutes, adding hops in the last 14 minutes and 5 minutes, and hopped malt extract after the flameout.

    Air lock bubbles?

+1 As long as you have an air-tight seal, you should probably see some airlock bubbling when fermentation gets going. It is possible your seal isn't tight, and could also be possible you missed all the action (it can start bubbling within hours of pitching yeast). Hopefully you have a...

    Airlock slowed down on bubbling

Basically, your fermentation got off to a vigorous start and pretty much completed in the first few days. This is entirely normal. Fermentation can complete in a couple days, or a couple weeks.. it depends on a lot of factors like temp and type of yeast. However, just because you reach your...

    Airlock slowed down on bubbling

You can get by without taking gravity readings as long as you give the beer plenty of time to completely finish fermenting. It sounds like your bubbling airlock previously stopped, and you're in a secondary fermenter now for conditioning. I'd just let it sit there as you planned (1-2 weeks?)...

Will my auto-siphon troubles oxidize my beer?

No problemo, Kanth :mug: Thanks for the advice everyone. I guess I'll practice on some water buckets and try to isolate the problem.. it could be that my tubing isn't snug on the cane and could be drawing in air, or perhaps there is a leak.

Will my auto-siphon troubles oxidize my beer?

Well when I first started the auto-siphon, it started up like a champ. But after about a minute, the siphon suddenly stopped. And when I re-pumped a few times, it was having a hard time getting going, and was causing bubbling of the beer in the bottling bucket. Usually after a handful of...

Will my auto-siphon troubles oxidize my beer?

I bottled today using an auto-siphon, and on many occasions, I was just pumping air into my beer.. I don't know if this is a common problem, but I kept having issues getting a good solid siphon going. So, I probably pumped at least 20 times where air bubbles were injected into my beer in the...

    over carbonated?

Geysers can happen if the beer is not fully carbonated yet. The CO2 needs time to be absorbed into the beer. I wouldn't judge whether it's over carbonated yet for at least another two weeks or so.

If you could spend $100-150 for your first upgrade..

My ground water is a bit warm out here. I had a feeling full boils means probably needing a wort chiller. Good suggestion on maybe needing the larger one. I don't want to start some aluminum vs. stainless debate, but I assume a lot of people are using aluminum pots on their burners? Heck of a...

If you could spend $100-150 for your first upgrade..

Thanks for the quick suggestions! Looks like the burner option is highly recommended. I was kind of thinking for BIAB all-grain, I could still mash in my 5.5 SS pot on the stove, and do a sparge using a larger pot on an outdoor burner. And then combine everything into the larger pot on the...

If you could spend $100-150 for your first upgrade..

Picture this: - You have one 5.5 gallon SS kettle - You also have one 2 gallon pot - You've been restricted to partial boils on the stove because of this - Your microwave is just above your stove, so an 8 to 10 gallon pot probably wouldn't even fit on the stove. Even so, a full boil would...

Nice work, looks like an excellent DIY method for bottle drying :)

Idea To Stabilize Bottle Conditioning Temps

I'm interested in hearing some other opinions, but it sounds like a mighty fine plan to me. Maybe just make sure you don't accidentally make it too cold in there with the ice packs. I don't think there's a problem with ~75F temps for bottle conditioning. I guess if your bottles are going to...

Cheap Plastic bottles for carbing brew

+1 You can buy a couple cases of pry-off beers, enjoy them, then re-use the bottles. Of course this will probably run you more than $40, but you get to enjoy beer! You can buy a case of PET bottles for around $25 to $30 online. Or, as you mentioned, you can try re-using empty soda...

You know you're a home brewer when?

You have nightmares about a stuck sparge, and you don't even brew all-grain.

    Stuck Fermentation @ 1.020

So it sounds like you added your DME later in the boil, and if so, you actually did a late addition. In either case, since you pitched more yeast, I'd probably give it a few days to make sure the new yeast isn't doing anything. If you were to bottle now, and the new yeast does pick up the...
