I need to research before I brew. Why would I brew a style I have never tasted before? This is one of the many reasons I love a "Build Your Own" Six Pack.
A trick I learned is to use a hair dryer. Its quicker than boiling and just as effective. After blowing hot air on it for 30 seconds it went on like a charm.
Brewed the Bee Cave IPA on Saturday. Everything went well so I put the fermenter up and on Sunday afternoon I went to check on it. Much to my surprise it looked like I had barely missed having a blow out. This was strange since in none of previous brews i was close, usually with 1.5 inches to...
The local breweries that have beer out right now (Peticolas is coming):
Rahr - Best known brewery in DFW
Franconia - Absolute must since you are in Plano
Deep Ellum Brewing Co - New brewery, haven't tried much of their stuff
Any idea where your next trip will be? Lots of craft breweries out there. Some of the places in Dallas:
Franconia
Rahr
Lakewood
Deep Ellum
There are several others getting ready to open up as well.
You probably won't hit your og, this will result in lower ABV, but I am not sure if that warrants buying all new grains. It will still taste like beer and be easily drinkable (hopefully).
In the end though, its up to you to decide.
Yes, extract is cheaper than grain but not the equipment. How much more is a 3-tier brew stand vs 1 pot for extract? not to mention scales, valves, hoses and all the other fun stuff associated with AG.
