    Starter size

I tried using 6oz DME by weight to 2 qts H2O in 2 liter erlenmeyer per Jamil Z. Took a gravity reading towards the end of 15 min. boil, resulting in, IIRC 1.050. Too high for a starter so added more water incrementally till it was back down to 1.040. Next time will try 4oz to same H2O...

    Primary ferment temp. wyeast 2112

Turned out to be best beer so far. Served at a graduation party in June. Many people commented that it did not taste like homebrew they've had before, that it was good. Ha! As I type, I have a Oktoberfest beer with 2112 fermenting away at 60. Started out ferment at 63 for 4 days then...

    Good idea from Heineken

Anybody, how about those Heineken mini-kegs, are they gravity fed? They appear to be some kinda pump style dispenser. Are they bigger then other mini-kegs?...

    Good idea from Heineken

Thanks for input Homebrewer:mug: . I always forget about those gravity fed mini-kegs. Am I to understand correctly Homebrewer, that you are conditioning/ageing and priming your beer IN the mini-kegs for a period of time?

    Stir Plate Help

I'm piling on, but whatever:D , I did the same on a stirplate from HERE and HERE I liked the simplicity of the first link and the tangible parts I could find with second. Results, I stacked two rare earth magnets on fan in the center of fan similar to Works well with a 2 liter erlehnmeyer...

    Good idea from Heineken

Well, $98.75 is a big leap from about $18 for the heineken keg that I saw for sale at my local alcohol store.

    Good idea from Heineken

Yes, yes, yes...I was at store looking at the mini-keg and had same thought, "Could I use this canister for taking my homebrew on the road?" Any success stories out there?

My failed attempt at temp. control, wah, waaahhh

Sounds interesting...but far out of my realm of knowledge. I've heard of glycol being used as a cooling agent but don't have any idea how to implement. I'll be spending plenty of time with frozen ice for awhile to see how it can be coerced to better my beer. Are you kicking some ideas...

My failed attempt at temp. control, wah, waaahhh

Here it is. Nothing special. I did use a digital thermostat from HERE instead of what is called for in original plans which can be found on that page.

My failed attempt at temp. control, wah, waaahhh

pictures, sure. I'll get some up tonight. Same deal as HERE It's oktoberfest in spirit. Used wy2112 instead of a true bavarian/german lager yeast. I still don't have the ability to lager at freezing for months

My failed attempt at temp. control, wah, waaahhh

Built fermentation chiller w/ 2" foamboard. took most of vacation week to build but it's done and got a oktoberfest fermenting away at 63*. No better way to spend vacation, IMO.

My failed attempt at temp. control, wah, waaahhh

Yes I tried using frozen 1 liter H2O bottles..., but I only had 2 on hand to use. Those melted in about an hour resulting in a 2 degree drop. It's been 2 days now so it's a lost cause for now. Maybe I'll learn something for next time. What's a good cheap DIY for fermentation control besides...
