Friends have taken a interest and taste towards my beer.

When people are like that, its just plain rude. Yeah I brew, what do you do? Can I have some of that for free? You always have to have some sort of deal. You bring me bottles, cook dinner, bring cigars, wife swap!, whatever. Then you get beer! Haha, but all jokes aside, I usually give out...

Stopping a hop bine from getting any longer

If it's like most plants, you can indeed cut the shoot tips (Apical meristems) to stop vertical growth. Generally when the shoot tips are cut, the hormones there migrate to other lateral growth tips. If you've acheived the size you are looking for, pinch or cut the main tips and it will bush...

    Summer Beer Recipe

Your recipe looks very similar to a Belgian Wit, except you don't have wheat in the grain bill. Your coriander and orange amounts look bang on what was in my last Wit Kit. We steeped these ingredients for only 5 minutes in 160 F water. I would like to try this beer.

First brew ever came out great!

Yeah lets see it, I love me some hefeweizen. I actually spend over a hundred bucks a week just on commercial Hefeweizen and Wit examples...

Blow off tube with cream ale

It sounds a little ghetto, but will probably work. People used to brew this stuff in open vats with no starsan! Next time get a proper sized hose...just for good measure, which for the airlock outlet , should be 7/16" Inner diameter of the hose. I use a 1/2" ID and it actually works pretty...

    Raspberry Hefe?

I've done a couple fruit wheats and a Hefe last summer. My favorite beer and I drink commercial examples daily. I have also been doing a fair amount of research. 1. I have heard everything from 1-4 lbs, a few good examples use purees of around 2lbs. If I were to do it again, I would go three...

    Moving Question

Hard to say. I think I would bottle and move them in cases rather then a 5 gallon fermentor. I just moved last month April 1st. I didn't have any fermenters or carboys full by plan, so didn't have to worry about it. In terms of space, its easier to stack two boxes of bottles on a good base...

Followed Brewers Best Instructions , what the **** is this **** ?

Isn't there some sort of an altitude adjustment to be made for priming sugar? My LHBS makes free sugar bags for kits brewed in Calgary. That being said... they give all of the bags out of a big bin that they give away with various styles of beer kits..

Belgian wit was pitched too hot, off-flavors?

Alright, thank you all very much for your time and input. Fermentation is continuing, albeit slowly, and Its is now being held close to 72F. (The kit instructions call for ramping the temp up to 77F.. I don't know that I want to get my space that warm. Anyways, Prost!

    Wheat beer

From what I have learned about Wits, the flaked wheat can be steeped to add proteins and haze to the beer. They don't really have to provide any fermentable sugars,so don't need to be mashed. I just did a kit like this and you steep oats, wheat, coriander, and bitter orange peels. Just used...

Belgian wit was pitched too hot, off-flavors?

Hey, Did a Belgian Wit Kit last Sunday. It included wheat, oats, coriander and bitter orange peel, to add to a base of light malt (was a Cervesa base kit) as reccomended by my LHBS. Did the steep exactly by the book including thermometer. Cooled my brew pot in a sink of ice and water for a...

    Hello, a Calgary brewer here!

Hey all, While I've been on the site for awhile now, I don't feel I've really interacted much so I thought I would blow some time at work and say hi. My name is Josh, Im local to NW Calgary, and a studying homebrewer. I started brewing 10 years ago, when I was 18. I brewed can and kilo...

Dry hopping a wheat? Am I crazy?

Ammo, that beers sounds like a tranny, haha! Could be good though, but in my head Im thinking IPA= hops + malt balance and Wit = yeast flavors and spice balance... Not sure the hops would let your coriander..bitter orange shine, and I think it might also smother the yeast. But I've been...

Brewhouse Kits - looking for opinions and reviews. . .

Alright, well I havn't posted in awhile, almost ever actually! But I do brew with these kits all the time, and have some feedback. All of these kits were +- a week in primary and +- two weeks in secondary before batch prime with dextrose and bottled 500ml and 1L EZ cap bottles. 1. Cream Ale...

    Unibroue!

Love this brand! I have so far had the La Fin du Monde, the Blanch du Chambly, the Blonde du Chambly and La Gaillarde (the combo pack) I have to say I LOOVE the Blanche du Chambly, especially when poured from the 750ml bottle as the lees are thicker and juicier haha. Great in a weizen glass or...
