    What have I created?

I'll get it into bottles some time this weekend. Need to sterilize some water first to recover my yeast. I love that Abbey Ale yeast. I'll get a report up when it's done. My hydrometer sample tasted pretty good. Not too bready, not at all sweet. I boiled the hops in a cotton bag, so it doesn't...

How important is grain crush for flavor?

How would you describe the tannic flavor the husks produce?

How important is grain crush for flavor?

I'm really not sure about the water, I live in a fairly old apartment with some questionable plumbing.

How important is grain crush for flavor?

I've got a question regarding grain crush. I only have a blender to work with and it's basically making a powder out of my grains. I'm doing BIAB all grain, so a stuck sparge isn't an issue for me. However my beers are tasting... bad. Really not much more to say about it. Would investing in a...

    What have I created?

Forgot to add, the yeast was white lab abbey ale 530. The gravity reading was .022. Its still very slowly producing CO2, o figure I'll give it another 7 days before I rack it off to secondary.

    What have I created?

Hi guys, I'm still quite new to the whole home brewing thing, i've only done 4 or 5 all grain batches so far. about a week ago i decided to take what I had left in my cabinet and brew a beer. I had a vial full of washed yeast i could pitch without it costing me anything so i figured what the...

    yeast smell

I've got a similar problem with my first Wit. Smells horribly yeasty, girlfriend described it well when she said "it smells like bad eggs". However, the taste is actually quite palatable. Will these off smells dissipate with time? The green beer smelled fine, it's actually smelling worse after...

    strangely high OG

Thanks for the help with it guys. I've learned that my crush was way too fine. I was using a VitaMix blender (as i don't have a mill yet, i'm lacking both space and money at this point). So my extraction was VERY high. Tasted the beer though after 2 weeks primary and a week conditioning, it...

    strangely high OG

Yes the Refractometer is clearly a superior tool. Getting that beer from fermentor to test tube and back again in a sanitary environment is annoying to say the least! Thanks for the tip though. Looks like i'm going to have some strong beer this time... Can i dilute it a little later without...

    strangely high OG

That's a very good point... the thermometer was included in a kit... the hydrometer was purchased from a specialty store. I'll have to check that or just replace it with a better thermometer.

    strangely high OG

Hydrometer was working fine on other batches, showing the correct readings. Plus the temperature correction raised my OG not lowered it. I gave my hydrometer a tap and got the air bubbles off of it, made sure it was in the middle of the jar, the instrument was working fine. Any suggestions on...

    strangely high OG

Hey everyone, Fairly new to this and I have a quick question about something that happened. I was brewing a leffe clone from here https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f71/revvys-belgian-blonde-leffe-clone-202852/ It expects an OG of 1.068. Mine came out to 1.084. I followed the recipe to the letter...
