    Heating Element Connector Melted

I got my new connector today and brewed a new batch. All went well. I inspected all my connections and everything looked good. I think what happened is that some wort got into the connector. I will from now on wrap the connector to the heating element with plastic wrap before squeezing the bag...

    Heating Element Connector Melted

Doug, yes you are correct. I wasn't thinking. It was the white wire carrying 120V 180 degrees out of phase with the black wire. Bobby, no you did not make the cable. I do think the problem is with wort getting into the connector. It was a pretty messy batch compared to most but I can't be sure...

    Heating Element Connector Melted

I pretty much destroyed the plug getting it disconnected from the heating element so there is not much to see. It looks like the terminal for the white common heated up an melted enough which caused the socket to distort. Also I could not unscrew the white wire because it was too melted. Also I...

    Heating Element Connector Melted

I have a 240V BIAB setup. I just got done brewing a batch of beer. When I tried to disconnect the power cord from the heating element I couldn't. It turns out the connector melted. I think this happened because as I was squeezing the grain bag some wort dripped onto the connector. It took a lot...

    Cheese Cave build

I have finally found time to work on my cheese cave. The shelves are almost done, I just need to dowel them together. I was wondering if Elmer's glue would be OK or if a waterproof glue would be needed.

    PBW $4 a pound NNJ

I started brewing about a year ago and thought I would need a lot of PBW so I bought 50 lbs. It turns out I do not need as much as I bought. If you are local this will be a good deal. I'm in Montville NJ. I also have these other items for sale...

    Cheese Cave build

Staestc, no I didn't. I did order a bunch of stuff from New England Cheese Making since they had their Black Friday deal. I will have to see if they have the oak at my local Home Depot. I was actually thinking of using pine, I think that's what it is, from palettes. The palettes were very new...

    Cheese Cave build

Passedpawn what thickness would did you use for your shelves. I want to do the same thing you did but with poplar, it cheaper but won't look as nice. Home depot has some "hobby" poplar in 1/4" and 1/2".

    Cheese making molds

I went to Target today and I couldn't find any Sterilite containers. Passedpawn could you give me the dimensions of your ripening box. I also went to Joann's and they didn't have any butter muslin but they did have unbleached muslin, is that the same thing?

    Cheese making molds

I did everything I could, well not quite, to try the get the humidity up and couldn't get it past I think 70%. That caused the back of the refrigerator to form a lot of condensation. I will check out the dollar stores, thanks.

    Cheese making molds

Does anyone have a suggestion for a good box to get. Whatever I find is either to small or to big, thanks.

    Cheese making molds

Another thing I need to figure out is what to do about a ripening box. The mesh and diverter seem like a good idea. Now I need to find a good box. I'm having a hard time with that. I went to about 4 stores yesterday and didn't fine anything I liked.

    Cheese making molds

cheesemaking.com has a similar one also available on Amazon with the same $3 markup. I am coming up with a list of things I might want to get from cheesemaking.com, I think I might get 10% off since it's my first purchase. cheesemaking has a lower free shipping amount. I have a lot decisions to...

    Cheese making molds

Does anyone have a suggestion for a mold that will work for a hard cheese of around the 2 lb size. I don't want to start out too big as far as batch size goes. I have looked at ppawens posts and maybe he can recommend a specific mold he used for a 2 pound cheddar

    Cheese making molds

I am starting to get prepared to make some cheese. I have an old wine cooler for the cheese cave. I will make a cheese press. But I am having problems finding the right cheese mold. I have watched many of Gavin Webber's videos and he has a 6.5" wide, 5.5" tall mold with a follower and many...

    Cheese Cave build

I am thinking about making cheese and found a wine cooler which looks similar to yours. It the kind a refrigerator that has a compressor. I can get the temperature to around 55 degrees but cannot get the RH past 50%. I put in a cloth which hangs in a tub of water to up the humidity. I noticed...
