    Cheese Cave build

I just now realized there were posts to my post from last January. Thanks for the replies. The Gruyere doesn't seem to be doing well but the others seem OK.

    Grain Mill Recomendations

I got my replacement bearings and now the cereal killer works great.

    Grain Mill Recomendations

The bearing that fell apart is pressed into the "slave" roller. There is no way to get behind it. The roller is solid. The "master" roller has it's bearing in the body. These should be easy to remove. None of the bearings turn. They act more like bushings. I can get the 4 bushings for about $12...

    Grain Mill Recomendations

I just came across this video, it seems to confirm that I adjusted the rollers in the wrong direction. At about 6:00 he discusses this.

    Grain Mill Recomendations

I'm having a hard time removing the bearing. It seems to be pressed in pretty tightly. Is there some sort of trick to it. The rollers on the kegco can be adjusted either clockwise or counterclockwise. Someone suggested that I adjust the roller in the opposite direction. It seems to have helped...

    Grain Mill Recomendations

I took my cereal killer apart and realized this is the type with bearings but the bearing on the slave roller is falling apart. I cleaned the mill and put it together but is just won't mill anymore. Should I just scrape it or is it repairable? I decided to get the Kegco 3 roller ($162...

    Whey Ricotta

I'm planning on making lasagna soon and need some ricotta. I made a blue cheese today and was planning on using the whey from that to make ricotta but realized that wouldn't be a good idea. Does it matter what cheese the whey comes from to make ricotta. I'm sure mozzarella would be OK. I'm...

    Grain Mill Recomendations

Jonnyrotten, Your are right, 15,000 lbs is a lot. If I do get it it may just outlast me:( but still it may be most economical in the long run assuming their numbers are correct. Dave

    Grain Mill Recomendations

To quote thadius856: "The most expensive tool you'll ever buy is the one you keep replacing." The MM-3 is supposed to last for 12,000 - 15,000 lbs so if I do get it then it will most likely be the last mill I ever buy. It will also mill the grain in one pass rather than 2 that it takes the CK...

    Grain Mill Recomendations

Jonny Rotten, I guess you feel this is false advertising: https://www.morebeer.com/products/monster-mill-mm3-grain-complete-packages.html Code Section, I wrote an email and am waiting for a rely. I'm not sure if they have a phone. Thanks, Dave

    Grain Mill Recomendations

Johnny Rotten, Not a very useful post for sure. I wasn't expecting a used mill to last forever. I'm not sure what your point is. Do you have a point? There is nothing in my post that said that I was suggesting I wasn't expecting it to last forever. I'm just trying to find a mill that will fit...

    Grain Mill Recomendations

I took the mill apart and made sure that the end plates were as far apart as possible. I'm not sure if I actually did anything. The rollers do spin freely but they do squeak a little. This is an older version without bearings. I will test it this weekend but am not very hopeful. I guess I will...

    Grain Mill Recomendations

I bought a used Cereal Killer grain mill about 15 months ago. It worked OK at first but lately it has been acting up. The roller just spins but doesn't grab grain so nothing happens. I cleaned it thoroughly and it helped a little but that didn't last long, so I'm in the market for a new mill. I...

    Gruyere problems

Last weekend before I wrote this post I wiped off the gooeyness from the cheese with a coarse cloth. I didn’t think of scraping it off. Scraping would have been better. It actually seems a little better now then before but is still sticky. By soft I mean the cheese in general. The cheddar seems...

    Gruyere problems

Thanks for all the information, some of it is beyond my understanding though. I thought maybe a picture might help to determine if there is a problem. Since I was at it I included a picture of a cloth bound cheddar. I'm not too concerned with this one. It seems firm all over but it sure is moldy.

    Gruyere problems

It been almost a month so I don't remember the details but as far as recall after I air dried the cheese for 3 days it wasn't slimy but started shortly after being in the cheese cave. The slim is the same color as the cheese, which is an off white color. Maybe it not really a slime but the...

    Gruyere problems

I am new to cheesmaking and have made about 6 cheese around 4-5 weeks ago. The Romano cheese seems to be doing good, several of the others are vacuum packed so it's hard to tell how they are doing but seem OK. But the Gruyere is soft and really slimy. It's even hard to pick up it's so slimy. A...

    Cheese Cave build

Finally got my cheese cave built . The thermostat didn't work right so I replaced it with a MH1210F. I have a Colby, Gruyere, Romano, Butterkase and a cloth banded Cheddar aging.

PBW $3.50 a pound in NNJ (Montville)

I started brewing about a year ago and thought I would need a lot of PBW so I bought 50 lbs. It turns out I do not need as much as I bought. If you are local this will be a good deal (below cost) $3.50 a pound. I'm in Montville NJ. I also have these other items for sale...
