Any babies born on/near a brew day?

Baby number 3 will turn 6 weeks old tomorrow. I've actually brewed 4 batches (one was cider, so it doesnt count) since we brought her home. It helps that I brew outside and the weather has been incredible on my last 2 brew days. My boys (3 and almost 5) hang out with me all day. They stay...

    Beer and Deep Dish Pizza....

Yeah, the Portillo's is around the corner from the house I grew up in. I've only been a couple of times, but it has always been good. We also have a local "chain" (i think they have like 3 or 4 places open now) called Romano's that isn't too bad.

    Beer and Deep Dish Pizza....

In my hometown (Moreno Valley) there is a joint called Chicago Pasta House that has the real deal deep dish.

Why is Centennial Blonde so popular?

I haven't tried this recipe, but I can say that a blonde ale is a nice compromise type of beer. My dad, FIL, BIL, and other folks really liked the blonde ale kit from MoreBeer that I brewed. And after letting it sit for a bit, I really liked it as well. It was certainly better than any of the...

    Beer and Deep Dish Pizza....

Where in So Cal are you? There are a couple of places in the IE that make good deep dish pies.

    Cool or Unusual bottle openers

I had a pair of the reef sandals with an opener in the bottom. They did come in handy at a campout when we forgot an opener until we found one in town. They were good for that sort of thing (emergency, in a pinch, erc) but the opener kind of sucked otherwise.

What's the worst craft brew (commercial) you've had?

I like buying "craft brew" from time to time at Trader Joe's. I like the Oatmeal Stout and Dunkelweiss (the dunkel is a treat because the style isn't super popular in southern Ca). $6 a six pack is a pretty good deal for decent beer, plus it is a nice way to eventually get empties. Anyhow...

    What's in your fermenter(s)?

Had a marathon brew day on Sunday. Bottled Upstate Mike's Caramel Cider for my SWMBO (she is itching to drink again as she just had kid #3 about 5 weeks ago). I like cider, but this batch is for her. I also bottled a scottish ale that I think I may have infected so we shall see... Brewed a 5...

    more beer blond ale extract

It's a nice beer and I'm down to my last couple bottles. To be honest, I brewed it as my first because it came with my kit and I figured if I screwed it up, I wouldn't shed too many tears. The only thing I had a hard time with was trying to find something to compare it to. It doesn't seem...

    more beer blond ale extract

My first brew was the MB Blonde Ale. It came out pretty good and all the folks that aren't fans of big beers really liked it. It's a really nice, easy beer to drink that is miles ahead of the BMC stuff. I may not use thr kit again, but my plan is to always have something similar in bottles.

What's the worst craft brew (commercial) you've had?

I saw the Rogue-Vodoo Banana Chocolate thing at Bevmo the other day but couldn't pull the trigger. It was 13.99 and the Bacon-Maple was still fresh in my mind (or tongue). If it wasn't so darned expensive, I may have pulled the trigger.

    Any styles you've regretted brewing?

First brew was a blonde ale cause it came with my kit and I figured if I hated it was no big loss. It actually came out pretty good and my fizzy yellow drinkers in my family loved it including my Dad (even at almost 36, his approval is most important), my FIL, BIL. I know it turned out right...

    What's in your fermenter(s)?

5 gallons of cider in the carboy that is actually ready to be bottled but life is crazy right now. I need to make sure that I have relatively open evenings so that I can pastuerize once it's carbed and that isn't happening this week. I also have 5 gallons of Scottish 80 schilling sitting in...

    Brewing with Juniper Berries

And from googling around, less is more in this instance.

    Brewing with Juniper Berries

I don't know anything about much, but i do know that Juniper Berries are what makes gin not taste like vodka. I can't see it being a good beer flavor.

What's the worst craft brew (commercial) you've had?

Even though I thought it was fantastic, I can see why someone wouldn't enjoy it. The spices aren't subtle at all.

    Seasonal brewing

I would say for about 7-8 mos. of the year, you are probably right. In the inland areas, it stays pretty consistently in the 90s from late June to early October with quite a few high 90-low 100 days for good measure.

Where do you dump your trub?

Only have done 2 batches, but I dump the trub in the backyard on the grass. We don't have dogs, so no worries.

What's the worst craft brew (commercial) you've had?

I agree. I totally enjoyed the 12-12-12. I've had it out of the bottle and from a keg and both were fantastic. I just figured it was Stone's take on a Holiday Ale. That said, I'm a Stone fanatic, so I might be a little biased :)

My First Recipe, Mint Chocolate Stout

Haven't seen it for a bit but it could still be around. It usually comes in 12 oz. bottles, but I happen to be in a bar back in January and it was on draught.
