Brew Masters on Discovery w/ Sam Calagione

The Brew Masters facebook just posted this : "Hey Brew Masters fans! We wanted to update you to let you know that the series is moving to Thursdays at 8pm ET/PT beginning December 9, in an episode featuring Dogfish Head Beer's first "cedar-fied" beer." Another move but this time to more of a...

Brew Masters on Discovery w/ Sam Calagione

I know AHS has a lemongrass beer kit. I'm in the process of trying to formulate a recipe of my own based on a Thai dish called Panang Chicken (or beef/shrimp). I plan on using lemongrass, thai basil, and maybe some red curry powder using a Belgian wit as the base. Probably won't brew it until...

Brew Masters on Discovery w/ Sam Calagione

I thought the show was a good intro to the craft brewing world for people who know nothing about it. With that being said, I'm interested to see how the series progresses and how much more in depth it will get. Assuming every episode isn't like the one last night, it looks like I'll continue...

    How angry would you be?

She doesn't know the difference in weight between a full bottle and an empty bottle? And totally agree with Gila, why would she throw it out when they had caps on them? Totally weird situation...

4 LHBS to choose from, 1 just took himself off the list

Man, if your brewing process is as thorough and well thought out as your responses, I REALLY need to try one of your beers :D

Inspired by a vodka thread, let's talk RUM!

I'll second the private stock. There are definitely a lot more rums I'd like to try, though. If anyone ever has the chance, I highly recommend trying Jamaican rum cream. It's absolutely delicious!

    Random Moments of Beauty

When I lived in NY, I used to love taking the train into NYC every day and just looking at the wonderful architecture and seeing the sunrise over the buildings. It's amazing what people can notice if they step out of their technology driven world.

    Schlafly pumpkin ale opinions

Hmm very interesting. For me, it actually rivals Souther Tier Pumpking but I also like very heavily spiced beers so that could be why. Assuming yours was normal, what didn't you like about it?

A Pictoral how to brew an extract kit.

Thanks for posting the recipe! I have a few questions for you regarding it. 1. What hops did you add first? 2. Did you strain out the cinnamon stick or did that go into the fermenter? Really looking forward to brewing this! Thanks in advance for your help!

A Pictoral how to brew an extract kit.

Nice! I'm pretty familiar with the extract brewing process but it's nice to see some techniques I've never thought of such as the ice addition and the bottling bucket for aeration! Looking forward to seeing the recipe!

    Recipe Forumlation

Thanks for the tips all! I think my next step is going to be backing away from kits and starting to do more of the recipes on here and some clone brews. I'll probably do some SMaSH brews to get a better understanding of various characteristics of different ingredients. I think I'll also pick up...

    Recipe Forumlation

I have several ideas for recipes that I want to make but I'm at a point where I'm not sure how to calculate the proper amount/type of extract, grains, hops, etc. to use when making my own recipes. My question to everyone is at what point in time did you all actually figure out how to...
