    New year, new ink

That's pretty sweet ink and the meaning behind it is awesome

    DFH Ale

I've heard of it but only because I live in the area with the Alehouses, as well. I haven't had it but as per the DFH website: "This Double IPA is rich honey amber in color with aggressive hopping balancing a robust flavor profile packing 9.5% alcohol by volume. Citrus, apricot and piney...

    Ommegang abbey clone?

The tasting sheets don't give the specific amounts used of each ingredient but hopefully it will be a good start for everyone trying to clone it!

Don't stand next to the kid with the BigBoy sauce!

Haha that's a great story! Although I'm still young, these are the kinds of stories that makes me want kids...for awesome stories/memories/bonding moments like this!

    Ommegang abbey clone?

Just as someone who works PT for Ommegang...as per the tasting sheets I had to memorize, the spices used in the Abbey Ale are sweet orange peel, coriander, cumin, and star anise...hops are columbus and styrian golding...I know this is a thread for an extract recipe but the malts used are pilsner...

Is it a good idea? Calling all Engineeers and Software guys!

    Pairing with Pliny the Elder

Well, I did exactly what I said I was going to do...drink it with some steak. I used a rub that was pretty mild and only added a little bit of spice. I definitely don't think it interfered much with the beer because that sucker (the beer) was as glorious as anything I've ever tasted!

    Pairing with Pliny the Elder

Definitely right about that! I've been reading various blogs, threads, and comments about people who have paired with Pliny..some people are saying spicy, I've heard others say Italian foods are good, and then the obvious like steak and burgers.

    Pairing with Pliny the Elder

I figured that for a beer this celebrated and hard to get, I'd make myself a good dinner to have with it! I'll be sure to stay away from spicy...maybe I'll cook up a nice steak with it!

    Pairing with Pliny the Elder

Upon returning to DC after a trip home to California, my roommate brought me a bottle of Pliny the Elder and Blind Pig. I'm interested in hearing some recommendations for food pairings with these beers. I looked on BeerAdvocate and saw general pairing ideas (i.e. grilled meats) but I'm...

    Kegging Equipment

Here's a link that I found on Craigslist. It's for a couple of things for kegging. http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/for/2139225829.html

    New Years Resolutions...

Let's see...Personally: 1. Visit the friends and family around the country that I continually say I'm going to visit and never do (only a few places) 2. Save as much money as possible (for aforementioned travel and to start padding my savings account) 3. Do one good deed a week for someone...

    Modifiying 'kits'

I haven't added spices to a pre-made kit but I've very much thought about doing it. If I were you, I'd look at some of the recipes on this forum for a wheat beer and see what amount of spices were added to them. Chances are the base is going to be similar so you're really just looking for the...

    Troegg's Mad Elf Ale

I agree with this statement. It tasted like carbonated Robitussin to me. I tried SO hard to finish the bottle but I just couldn't. It made me sad :(

That just looks absolutely incredible. I want that now!

    Contest

I saw what you were talking about and it was a bit unfortunate. I actually didn't wind up entering the contest, though. I don't have many posts because I am a newer brewer (only started in summer 2010) so I just don't feel that there's much I can contribute at this point in time. I add what I...

What are some of your tricks that have not been discussed?

There was a ton of good feedback wherever I saw that post which I was why I figured I'd share it here. I haven't actually tried it myself but I've been meaning to. I can see how all the foam would mess with the hydrometer which could definitely get annoying but at least your beer turned out fine...

What are some of your tricks that have not been discussed?

This isn't my trick but I saw it on one of the other posts somewhere on this forum...to help oxygenate the wort before pitching the yeast, put the wort into the bottling bucket, open the spigot and let the wort drain down into your fermenter.
