    Manually controlled HERMS

I haven't had a chance at a test run yet. I can't see why I won't be able to hit temps. No immersion - loses temp, full immersion - overshoots temp. Somewhere in there is an equilibrium point.

    Brew Stand Build

A lot of folks use polysulfone QD. They are high temp and food safe and don't get hot so you can touch them without getting burned.

    Manually controlled HERMS

For now, a string attached to the top bends at the entrance/exit of the coils. Next, it gets looped over a bar then angled out and down to the ground where it is weighted down to keep it firm.

    Manually controlled HERMS

I am in the same boat as you right now - building a manual HERMS. Until I automate, my plan is to constantly recirculate with no bypass. I am making a coil with the turns spaced a bit that I will place into the heated sparge water tank and control temperature by how much of the coil I submerge.

OG 1.050, still only 1.022 after 2nd yeast pitch, ideas?

I don't buy the alcohol level being too high to restart a stuck fermentation. My current batch with 1.083 SG got stuck at 1.030, so my alcohol level was higher. I pitched a smack pack and a day later it started back up. That said, OP's original attempts did not work, although we don't know...

    Grinding Coffee in a Barleycrusher

Good point folks. I think some of the industrial models have 5" to 7" diameter rollers, so pulling the bean in is not an issue like it would be with the BC.

    Grinding Coffee in a Barleycrusher

Has anyone done this? We buy coffee beans in bulk and grind enough for 3 or 4 days at a time in our burr grinder. Well, the grinder died and I was thinking, "I have this huge grinder in the garage". I was trying to find information on how commercial coffee sellers grind their coffee in bulk...

    Wooden brewsculpture with propane burners

Grandma's hand me down. It was my first set of chairs when I met my wife 20 years ago and they were vintage then. Seriously on the flammible thing, it's not like flames are shooting randomly in every direction. I have brewed in 30 mph winds and the flame moves about an inch max. In 10...

    Wooden brewsculpture with propane burners

I have been brewing on this for about 10 years now - never had anything close to a flaming wood pile. On the other hand, the CFC is built in to the underside of the table, so in an emergency, I could just pull the hose from there and put out the fire. Another local HBTer who shall go...

    Boston Butt today

Same here - butt going on the grill at 8am. It is sitting in brine right now. Got a bunch of hickory chunks ready to go.

    2009 Fantasy Football Veterans League

Ohiobrewtus looks strongest As long as Cutler finds a receiver, AP should do the rest to carry HighPlainsDrifter Schweaty's receivers may just be strong enough to carry that whole team I am hoping some of my sleepers pan out Last year on paper I had the highest scoring team in projected...

    2009 Fantasy Football Rejects League

We did vs. the spread last year and it wasn't real fun. Either straight up or straight up with confidence points seems to go over better.

    Beer & Sweat 2009 8/22/09

More from Beer & Sweat (balloons get tied to the category winners, causing a higher rate of sampling)

    Beer & Sweat 2009 8/22/09

The world's largest beer competition (by volume) was awesome once again. I don't know how many kegs were entered, but I vaguely remember drinking from entry #330, so it had to be north of that. HBTers Adrock and RCxc entered (their first time in a competition) and their IPA took third - it was...
