DC Area Group Grain Buy #25

Reached out to 3 Stars and will see if they're comfortable with resuming. I still believe whole-sack is the only reasonable option, for the time being, since on-site splits are too risky for brewers and staff. Health and safety are paramount, I can't drink beer when I'm dead. 👻

DC Area Group Grain Buy #25

Check in occasionally or watch the thread, we may be able to swing an order at some point and pricing is attractive for larger quantities.

DC Area Group Grain Buy #25

Forgot to say welcome aboard RampantOctopus! Good questions, unsure I can provide clear answers during these unprecedented times but will try (as an aside, I welcome a return of precedence and not hearing the word "unprecedented" for a very long time). Past orders have ranged from 10-15 sacks...

DC Area Group Grain Buy #25

Heard back from 3 Stars and happy to report that everyone is safe and healthy. I'm open to discussing ideas on restarting the group buy if we have interest. The website is still active (thank you Peter!) but obviously splits complicate matters related to pickup. Thoughts, opinions, complaints?

DC Area Group Grain Buy #25

I reached out to 3 Stars before things went spiraling further down the crapper but haven't heard back. Hope everything is okay but DC locals may have more info than me out here in the boonies. I asked about whole-sack curb-side pickup since that would be the only safe option IMO. If anyone close...

DC Area Group Grain Buy #25

Losing my mind, but otherwise doing fine :D Reached out to Harmony but didn't get a response, hope she's okay. 3 Stars are doing curb-side pickup and I thought maybe we could do some sort of socially responsible, social-distancing grain buy (sans splits and interaction with our fellow brewers)...

Unfortunately I think so, hopefully everyone is staying safe and have enough stock to brew a few batches

DC Area Group Grain Buy #25

Realistically, I'm shooting for some time in April if a weekend works for most brewers. We could try to squeeze in an order this month but it might prove difficult and splits are unlikely to close. May will be tough for me but I can organize the order and get everything ready for pickup if the...

DC Area Group Grain Buy #25

I assume some of us are looking at brewing and vacation schedules. I'd like to get an order in soon and, as previously discussed, figure out a regular schedule going forward. Lots of open splits and unsure many of them will close, but I'll put the call out now to review and close if you want...

From Harmony: "Yes, unfortunately, you heard right, we made the difficult decision to close the homebrew shop on January 31st. We are selling through the last of our inventory and will be having a liquidation sale within the next week or two. We definitely intend to maintain our relationships...

Pointers for a Trophy Double Death Spiral clone

Was in NC and really enjoyed this brew on tap, brought home a couple of 4-packs which didn't last long. Hazy IIPA with Mosaic, Citra, Amarillo, and local honey give a good balance and the grain bill provides a solid mouthfeel. Can take some guesses for the grains and adjuncts, assume a...

DC Area Group Grain Buy #25

We had three sacks of Proximity delivered at the last buy without issue, regional maltster so that may be the difference. 3 Stars does try multiple times to fulfill the order but, of course, they're at the mercy of the distributor.

DC Area Group Grain Buy #25

Thanks for the perspective, we've been in the 1-3 pallet range so that may just be the realistic order which takes time to build. I'm still thinking about ordering on a schedule but it may take a larger pool of brewers to get there. I like the upside of a ~fixed pick-up date so we can actually...

DC Area Group Grain Buy #25

On a completely unrelated note, one of the best brewers in my HBC is looking to upgrade his burner. Anyone have a good propane setup for sale that will drive a 20G pot?

DC Area Group Grain Buy #25

Optimistically, February. Realistically, Summer(?). The last two buys have been a learning experience and we may need to move to smaller overall buys placed on a set schedule. I'd like to hear opinions on moving to a quarterly purchase versus leaving the buy open until we get a decent order...

Well, sorry for the brainfart at the end of the buy but thanks everyone for coming out and lending a hand. Some great conversations and a lot of fine homebrew, thanks everyone for that as well! New buy is open, spread the word and likely see you guys in the Spring. Sláinte!

*** Please review the information below to save both you and me a lot of headaches. These guidelines are to help maintain my sanity (and marriage) and will hopefully not turn off long-time buyers. Realize these buys are Peter and me donating time and 3 Stars being generous to order and host...

Good point and I did during the previous buy but neglected to this time. Laptop decided to crap out today so sending a late email now in hopes of catching anyone who hasn't checked the thread.

Looks like it has a ball valve so it's likely a 10 Gal based on masonjax's original post

Thanks everyone who volunteered, the last buy went so smooth thanks to your efforts and I'm sure this one will go equally well.
