Trying to finalize this stout recipe

Perhaps 1 pound of acidulated malt, it will give it that little sour/bite that Guiness has...if it's a Guiness clone your going for. Recipe looks great, a good Fall beer.

    New to Forum and Homebrewing/Question

How long did you boil the extract? Typically, extracts added toward the end of the boil will stay lighter. Also, I think it is difficult to have a very light colored beer using extracts. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

    Chest freezer

I am in the beginning stages of planning a chest freezer kegerator. I converted an upright fridge a few years ago, but have a question about chest freezers. I know the walls of chest freezers have freon lines, but do the tops? I'm guessing that they don't, as all I have seen are plastic...

How much corn sugar did you use when bottling?

    history channel 8:00

No, he said as sugar content rises so does the hydrometer giving a high alcohol potential. Then when the sugars have fermented the hydrometer will sink. Very cool program, I happened to be flipping through the channels and caught it from the beginning. It was cool to see Dogfish Head and Sam...

Why Homebrewing is such a great hobby

It's a great hobby because: 1. The number of gadgets are limitless. There is always something to improve or upgrade. 2. I enjoy the science of the craft nearly as much as the actual drinking. 3. The whole family gets involved in brewery operations...My children toss in the hops, my...

    Brewing with rain water

How much rain water are you planing to use during brewing? It seems it would be difficult to collect 10+ gallons of rain water for brewing. I'm a self proclaimed treehugger, so I like the idea of conservation. I cringe when I watch gallons and gallons of water from my wort chiller run down...

    Newbie Bottling Question

It seems hardly any downward pressure is needed. The capper is spring loaded. The action of the spring and handles is the only pressure needed. After bottling for a year, I am switching to kegging. :) One big keg to clean and sanitize instead of 48+ bottles!

    3 way CO2 Distributor

Could someone post a picture of their 3 or 4 way CO2 distributor set up? Does the distributor pictured below screw into the regulator? Or is there a line from the regulator to the brass barb of the distributor and then of course three lines off the distributor (right below red shut off valves)...

    BEERFEST The Movie

Thanks glibbidy. I watched the trailer, it looks hilarious. Will this actually be in theaters or just released on DVD. It looks like it would be a bomb in theaters, could probably do well in college towns though...I definitely have to see it.

    Black and Tan

Things that make you go hmmmm... These are actually 2 different drinks. A Black and Tan is Bass and Guiness. A Half-n-Half is Harp and Guiness. Just some goofy beer fact. :mug:

    Sam Adam's Brew Contest

Likewise, my wife told me about it a few days ago. I don't think I would have anything bottled before the end of August...

    Sam Adam's Brew Contest

Did anyone enter the Sam Adam's brewing contest? If your beer is the winner, Sam Adams will brew and sell your beer nationally in 2007. Unfortunately, entries are due Aug. 18th. I didn't read if there was a money prize or just the satisfaction of having your beer brewed by Sam Adams.
