    Airlock question

My suggestion would be to leave it in the fermenting bucket for another week (2 weeks total) since you do not have a secondary. A lot of racking back and forth at this point would probably aerate the beer more than you would like. A secondary bucket or carboy isn't necessary, but I think it...

    Airlock question

Is it mold, or did some krausining (sp?) come up? In either case, pull it, quickly clean, sanitize airlock, and put back or after 5 days it could be ready to go to secondary if you choose. Was there still any action in the airlock?

    zymurgy!?!?!?!?!

Who is a member of AHA? Is it worth it to join? I am able to get back copies of Zymurgy at HBS at a reduced price, but if I am missing something by not being a member, perhaps, I should consider joining. I should probably join just for the sake of supporting the homebrewing movement. I have...

    I'm Taking the Plunge, Too!

I checked out The Barleycrusher website. Pretty cool, but $109, yikes. I am hoping the grain mill I get on ebay for $20 will do the job, simple hopper and adjustable plate grinder (similar to the one I use at HBS). Let us know how that Barleycrusher works for you, maybe I'll upgrade.

    chest freezer question

vtfan, sorry, what is the single stage or double stage thermostate? And which would you suggest?

    chest freezer question

Help...I'm looking to purchase a chest freezer; however, as you know it's not going to be used to freeze anything. :D To keep a chest freezer from freezing temps, all I need to do is plug the chest freezer into a thermostat device and plug the thermostate into an outlet, correct? By setting...

    Pipe Dream

After you brewed your first batch of beer, who didn't think of opening their own brewery or brewpub? I know I did. I know my wife cringed at the thought of me quitting my teaching career to open my own brewery. A dream I hope will someday come to fruition. However, tonight was an eye...

    I'm Taking the Plunge, Too!

Rhoobarb, I think you will HAVE to go with a propane burner. There is no way stove top will bring 6 gallons to boil. Good luck, let us know how it goes!! Ask here for help.

    Taking the Plunge

Like I said, I'm not sure why I didn't match OG. I was anal about mash temps, and lautering. Was right on time for adding hops and irish moss. I beleive my efficiency was like 75%, although I didn't match goal OG I'm pretty sure it will taste like beer, GOOD BEER!
