Faucets/Shanks - Stainless or Chrome? Does it REALLY matter?

Chrome or stainless, whichever way you go, you should plan on buying Perlicks. Everything I've read says that they are worth the extra cost versus other brands. They are the only forward-sealing taps currently manufactured, which makes a big difference for cleanliness and ease of use.

Best site to purchase for kegerator

Kegconnection and Birdman Brewing are two places I like to shop. I think Birdman brewing has a deal right now for chrome faucets with shanks and black plastic tap handles included for like $25 each. If you want stainless, they sell plenty of that too...

    What's in your fermenter(s)?

    My sig says it all.

    Random keg parts

Do you have shanks to go with the taps, or are they just the taps?

    Kegged my first batch tonight!

Well it smelled wonderful, and the gravity sample on Friday tasted pretty good flat and warm, so I'm hoping it tastes even better chilled and carbonated! I can't wait to pull my first homebrew draft!

    Kegged my first batch tonight!

It's my first ever all-grain batch, a Cascade/2-row SMaSH pale ale, brewed on 11/17/2012, so exactly one month ago. I put it in the fridge at 40F Friday night to cold crash, and just transferred it into the keg (through the keg opening, with autosiphon, no splashing). Going by this keg...

    BIAB with a Keggle

I'm also doing BIAB in a keggle. ~8 gallons strike water, 7 gallons boil, 5.5 gallons into the fermenter, 5 gallons into the corner/bottles. Works perfectly. Its nice, because I don't have to worry about boilovers (at least for 5gal batches). I still use fermcap-s, but that's just more for...

    SWMBO vs. Homebrew

My biggest problems as far as getting my wife on board for brewing is she doesn't like drinking alcohol, she doesn't like carbonated beverages, and she's an extremely tight penny pincher. I don't really mind those things, as it means she's actually a pretty cheap wife when it comes to financial...

Are you the Black Sheep of your neighborhood?

I'm contemplating spending this Sunday building a beer tower/portable dispenser like that for a new years party. I want to take two kegs, and I know they won't have fridge space for them.

Are you the Black Sheep of your neighborhood?

Fortunately we live in a neighborhood where the smallest lot is a half acre (mine), and the largest is about 3 acres. So while its a close-knit little neighborhood, you're not really right on top of each other. And once people find out what I'm doing, they seem more interested, like they'd never...

    Fermostat frermentation controller

Love the name.... Any idea what the target pricing is going to be for a dual-stage controller?

    SWMBO vs. Homebrew

Is there any cooking/boiling involved, or do you just dissolve the sugar in the juice, add the yeast, and walk away? I may try doing a gallon of cider or apfelwein to see if she/we like it. I love my wife to death, she just doesn't have a very interesting palate when it comes to drinks...

What is this "shaving" that you speak of?

    Best SMaSH recipe you've made???

I'll have to try a Vienna/Northern Brewer SMaSH once I get some fermenter space opened up. I don't have much experience with Northern Brewer yet.

Are you the Black Sheep of your neighborhood?

Heh, when I put up my hop posts, they kind of look like a row of 4 huge crosses in the back yard. I had about a half dozen people gingerly ask what they were within the first week. Once I told them they were for growing hops, people were fine with it. One person even said "for making beer!?" as...

Are you the Black Sheep of your neighborhood?

Every other person in my neighborhood is 2 - 4 times the age of my wife and I. We're the "young in's" in the neighborhood for sure. I've only brewed out on the driveway/in the garage the last 4 weekends in a row, so they haven't had much exposure to it yet. Mainly I just get people walking by...

    SWMBO vs. Homebrew

I envy guys who have wives that enjoy drinking beer, especially your homebrew beer. My wife doesn't drink anything carbonated (no soda, beer, or even champagne). She likes the taste of beer when its warm and flat, but just a sip here and there if she happens to be around when I'm taking a...

An ODE... to the old pos stove.......

Now THAT is an old stove... I'm surprised you can even get a boil on it! (Although, judging by the top, it looks like mayhaps you've had a few boilovers?)
