Getting ready to start big fermentation chamber

What are you using for insulation? The rigid foam insulation that I used to line mine wipes down pretty easily. The plastic sheets (like used to line shower stalls) would work well if you don't mind spending the money on them. The location of the AC unit is mostly personal choice, I'm not sure...

120V, E-HERMS, 2 Vessel Broth of Vigor Build!

What kind of insulation did you use on the kettle? I'm looking to insulate my BIAB keggle that I use for both mashing and boiling, and was planning on using the Reflectix insulation from Lowes, but your self-stick black foam insulation looks much nicer. Whats it called? Where did you get it...

Sweet Stout Left Hand Milk Stout Clone

Cracked this keg open the night before the New Years party. Damn it was good. It ended up being the most popular beer I brought to the party (also took two pale ales), and that's among people who aren't big into stouts! This batch is going fast, looks like I might have to brew another one soon...

Does this look infected to you?

The white spots in the neck are just yeast. I've had that happen before as well, especially using dry (rehydrated) yeast, or just pitching dry.

What came in the mail for you today?

3 Perlick 525SS taps with chrome shanks, a 4 port CO2 distributor, and a wye splitter. They actually showed up yesterday, but what the hey. These will be going in the new 13 cu. ft. chest freezer I'll be converting into a keezer in the coming weeks...

Winter garage brewing (aka temp troubles)

It might be a little sweeter, as well as slightly lower abv. Did you hit your pre-boil and post boil gravities just fine?

    Budget Bar Build

Lookin good! Hopefully I'll get a chance to renovate my basement in a few years, and when I do I plan on doing a built in bar. I love seeing how you guys here on HBT do your builds to get idea's. That cove cutting on a table saw would save a LOT of money on bar rail...

BMC = Bud/Miller/Coors, or your usual yellow pisswater.

Williams Siphonless Fermentors, anyone use them?

The only reason I prefer Better Bottles over buckets is because I like to be able to visually check my beer without opening the lid. Plus its a lot easier for me to tell if I'm going to need a blowoff BEFORE the airlock fills with krausen, rather than after. Other than that, I don't really see...

    Keezer Parts List... I'm Stuck

I'm considering attaching a large board to my collar that will hang down low enough to screw a regular drip plate onto. I don't want to permanently attach a drip plate to my freezer, the magnets may not be strong enough, and the drip plates with the tall stainless steel back plates are so much...

    Keezer Parts List... I'm Stuck

And not only are they named differently, they appear in different categories on the websites. I spent an hour looking for a specific nut on one website, when its within the first page or two of a different category on another site. And then, I'll find something on a website, but then when I go...

Question regarding a note from a LHBS contest

I would guess that either they got your beer mixed up with someone elses and sent you the wrong notes, they don't remember so they made something up, or they didn't like the beer for whatever reason, but didn't really know how to describe why it didn't taste good to them. I would move on and...

    Keezer Parts List... I'm Stuck

I too found that most vendors are within a couple dollars of each other on price once you add everything together. Some will be cheaper on certain things, while others are cheaper for something else. But once you add it all together, its easier to just pick a place you like/trust and buy...

    Chest freezer vs refrigerator?

I have a spare fridge sitting in the garage. Its my beer fridge. I strongly considered converting it to a kegerator, but there were 2 main issues I found with it (for my situation). 1. I didn't want to permanently damage the fridge. Unless I wanted to only use party taps, I'd have to drill...

    Keezer Parts List... I'm Stuck

Just a heads up. If you're not stuck on GE, the Frigidaire 13cu. ft. model from Lowes is a great option, and is currently $329. Also, its an Energy Star model, so your local energy provider may give you an Energy Rebate for it (my local company will give me a $50 rebate, making it cheaper than...

Sweet Stout Left Hand Milk Stout Clone

I just kegged my batch yesterday. OG and FG were both a little higher than expected, but fermentation is done. Gravity sample tasted fantastic! Can't wait until this babies carbed up next weekend...

    Kegged my first batch tonight!

I actually went and picked up my new 13 cubic foot freezer today instead of waiting for it to be delivered Wednesday. its sitting in the soon to be beer cave right now, staying colder than my thermometer can read. I've got an Ebay temperature controller on the way, which I'll wire up with an...

    Kegged my first batch tonight!

Just kegged two more batches tonight! A Galaxy/Vienna SMaSH pale ale, and a maltier SNPA clone. Bot smelled and tasted fantastic. I added an ounce of Galaxy to the SMaSH keg as well to dry hop. I've got one more beer fermenting, and that's a Left Hand Milk Stout clone that I'll probably keg...

Sizing your Chest Freezer for Corny Kegs

Nice info on the freezers. I did like that the 8.8 did NOT have a light on the underside of the lid. I don't know if I'll try to change that by removing the underside of the lid, or just make sure the collar is tall enough it doesn't matter. As far as rebate's go, LG&E here in Kentucky offers...
