All Grain: What is the advantage?

Our LHBS has just started selling 50 pound bags of Rahr 2-row for $24.50, unmilled. Thankfully, we have a friend in the hobby who lives nearby that has offered to allow us to use his mill. We've not bought it yet, because we need to work our storage logistics, but we're going to. It's a...

Cheap & Easy 10 Gallon Rubbermaid MLT Conversion

Thanks Flyguy... we used this design on our 48 quart Coleman Xtreme conversion. For the most part, it worked, but with some slight modifications, including a longer nipple (heh... I said nipple) and some flat rubber washers to stave off some leaks. Also.. anyone having a hard time finding...

Have an opportunity to get some Grolsch bottles

Good deal! The Grolsch bottles are nice, for things like cyders, meads, etc... but you shouldn't use them for beer. Green bottles allow too much light into them and skunk the beer.

    Is starting gravity ...

Honestly, I doubt we'll do that. Not because of the trouble of doing it, but mainly to understand what a low OG beer becomes. Make sense?

The Great 2007 HBT Belly Off Competition

I'm not sure I'll go so far as Cheese... but I'm dang glad Shimms finds me hot. I've not weighed myself in recent weeks, but I'll do so tonight and post it. I'm in

    Is starting gravity ...

Well, chalk this one up to inexperience right? We'll, at worst, have a decent tasting brew, and we'll glean knowledge from this one for future batches. We've had a hell of a krausen on the red so far, and it's fermenting nicely, so that's encouraging. Thanks again Evan... as well as...

You'd be right... I should have noted, we were batch sparging :)

    Is starting gravity ...

I think this is where I muffed it. I forgot to stir it, though I did pour the sparge water in fairly vigorously. I waited, but not too long. I think that's the case, that there was sugar left in the grist. Good learning experience, no? :)

The Great 2007 HBT Belly Off Competition

LMAO.. ok... I might be into this. I dropped about 35 pounds last year (I called it the Big D weight loss plan) but I've put about 15 of it back on. Lemme think on this. Sounds like a blast though.

    Is starting gravity ...

more a product of the mash, or of the boil? Did our first AG this weekend... and our after boil gravity was 1.040. A little low, to me, and according to Beersmith. I'm thinking it was a product of the mash... which, for AG rooks seems logical to me. But we boiled on our stove, and didn't...
