Robust Porter that still taste "young"

Patience grasshopper. Let it age. Soon you'll come back in this thread and say, WOW, I tried another one (weeks from now) and it's FANTASTIC. ;)

Developing another IPA recipe : Phase one

It's REALLY bitter at this point. I tried one about two weeks after bottling, and it's hoppy, no question. I'm anxious to try another and see if another week or two has mellowed it a bit. :)

Oxeygenated the S@#$ out of my beer!!

You'd better let me take that batch off your hands. It very well could be ruined, and I'll be happy to make sure it's disposed of properly ;) RDWHAHB. You'll probably be fine. How did you do it though? Did you put the hop bag over the end of the siphon that was in the carboy, or over the end...

    What yall brewin'?

Going out of town this weekend, so no brewing for us. Next weekend we'll bottle our Bells Brown clone, and rack our Dragon's Milk clone to the secondary where it will sit for a month. When the brown is bottled, we'll have eight cases of beer bottled, another two in the secondary, and we...

Rubbermaid MLT Conversion but cant find cooler/stainless steel fender

well, no, not exactly. After you've mashed, you vorlauf the runoff to clear it of any husks, etc. When you're doing that, you want to gently pour the runnings into the tun so as not to disturb the grain bed and stir up the husks you're trying to strain out. After that, you pour in your sparge...

Rubbermaid MLT Conversion but cant find cooler/stainless steel fender

I might be wrong, but I thought grain bed depth was only an issue if you're fly sparging. We batch sparge, so it's not an issue for us. We got ours at Dick's Sporting Goods. Try Gander Mountain?

    Cooler Mash Tun Question

We've got a 36 quart Coleman Xtreme and we maxed it out this past weekend with a 20 pound grain bill. FWIW

Rubbermaid MLT Conversion but cant find cooler/stainless steel fender

I used the parts listed, with a few alterations here and there, to convert our Coleman 36 quart Xtreme rectangular cooler. You might have to alter the fittings (the alteration I do remember is using a longer nipple ~giggle~ because of the width of the cooler wall) but in general it should work...

    Dragon's Milk recipe?

I don't have my notes with me, but our OG was around 1.056 if I remember ... Beersmith put it at around 1.070, but like I said, our efficiency still needs improvement. Regardless ... it's going to be a good beer.

My first IPA recipe... with help from some friends. Thoughts?

Well, like all things brewing, the recipe seems to change the day before, or the day of brewing, no? The final recipe was this : 2 pounds extra light DME 6.6 pounds pale LME 2 pounds Crystal 20L 1 pound munich malt 2 ounces Summit @ 60 mins 1.5 ounces Simcoe @ 45 mins 1.5 ounces Centennial @...

I thought that pack was where the yeast reside as well, but the guys at my LHBS told me other wise, and I believe them. :) good luck! :D

    Activator packs? already active???

I purchased a Wyeast Flying Dog Ale yeast smack pack from our LHBS. It was "inflated" too... but the guys at the LHBS said Wyeast told them they'd apparently closed the packs before they had cooled complete, which is why it looked swollen. We used it in our Bells clone with no problem. Just...

    Dragon's Milk recipe?

We're going for it this weekend. Here's the recipe : 14 pounds marris otter 2 pounds cara-pils 2 pounds crystal 80L 1 pound roasted barley .5 pounds crystal 120L .25 pounds chocolate malt 3 ounces East Kent Goldings - 90 mins 2 ounces East Kent Goldings - 30 mins 2 ounces East Kent Goldings...

    How much do you brew?

So far this year we've done four batches... and have plans to do another batch this weekend, and at least one more in the coming weeks. So that'll be 30 gallons, in about four or five months.
