My first IPA recipe... with help from some friends. Thoughts?

Cool idea.... I might try something off beat with my next IPA too. Up next, however, is an Oberon clone :)

    Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar

I didn't like this beer... but, I believe it's found in BYO's clone recipe edition. Unfortunately, my copy is at home.

My first IPA recipe... with help from some friends. Thoughts?

Tried two of these this week and they've mellowed. I'm really, really happy with this recipe. Trace doesn't really like it all that much (probably too hoppy) but I'm happy with it. I think it's pretty nicely balanced.

SHAZAM! AG here I am! er, soon...

do you have a gas stove? We've been able to do full boils on our gas stove using the front and back burners. We've got a 7 gallon stainless steel pot, and while it takes some time to get the boil going, it's possible. Patience is called for, but we finally were patient enough on our last brew...

    Eagle Scouts

Not an Eagle Scout... lost interest when my local troop would tie knots every meeting, and do little else. My oldest is now a Tiger Cub (as of last week, first meeting this week!) and I hope he'll see things through.

I'm a reporter for a daily newspaper ... an evil member of the media.

    Vanilla Poll

I agree... sausage gravy is suspiciously missing from this poll. Let's hear it for processed meat!

    How do you protect yourself?

Wow... great thread. I've got a few ways I'm protected. 1. I work two, sometimes three nights a week, Wednesday nights I have my kids, and they keep me and Trace running around so much that a pint isn't possible, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't like one after they're all asleep. I'm too busy...

    questions about a nut brown

Smack packs are easy. Even if you don't smack it right, you're going to be ok. Essentially a smack pack is a self-contained starter. Inside the pack, along with the yeast, is a package of yeast nutrient, which kickstarts the yeasties. I had one smack pack I couldn't smack, because it was...

    questions about a nut brown

fleas ... you could download the trial version of Beersmith to your PC and plug the numbers in from your recipe to get the SG and FG figures. I'd do it for you but my laptop is at home today. I don't think you'll be over your yeast's target range with that recipe. If you're concerned...

Just scored an 18 cubic feet refrigerator with freezer for $60 for the garage. Lagering here we come :)

    Help with a recipe?

We love Creamy Dark... please report back and let us know how this goes. Hopefully we'll have lagering capability before long :)

Wish Me Luck. This Is Gonna Get Ugly.

Yeah, we've done two batches at once, and it pretty much sucks. Of course I had help at least.

    Fermenting Bucket and Bottling Bucket

Me personally, I'd rack your IPA to a carboy, let it sit for at least a week, maybe two, depending on when you brewed it. After it sits in the carboy (essentially to let it clear some more), then rack it to your bottling bucket, bottle, and wait another three weeks, if you can. ;) Most people...

    Newbie Question about hydrometers

Why do you fill it to overflowing? I've never done that

    Newbie Question about hydrometers

you don't get to taste the sample if you don't take any out of the carboy. :) one trick I learned, when you put the hydrometer into the cylinder, is to give it a gentle spin. It'll help settle the bubbles, and should keep it off the sides. and wait... just let it sit for a bit. There's usually...

What's Boiling In Your Pot This Weekend?

Nothing. We're hauling the kids and the dog down to visit my parents and the rest of my family in sunny Central Illinois. I've not been home, with the kids, since Thanksgiving. So I'm looking forward to it, and the fam is looking forward to seeing the kids. :D Next weekend we'll be...
