When you drop the chiller in...

+1 on the Starsan! Just submerge yer chiller in a bucket of Starsan and watch the dullness disappear in 10 minutes....I would rather have whatever that "dullness" is, in my bucket rather than in me beer...... Roll away the dew!

    ?'s About Steeping Specialty Grains

Maybe it's just me but when I first started using extract kits, I followed the directions to the "T". Most of them said to bring 2-2.5 Gallons to 150 and hold the grains for 30 minutes then bring the temp up to 170 and discard the grains. Since I have a 10 gallon boil kettle, I have started...

20 mins into my 115th Hopdream IIPA!

Thanks for the tips boot! I bought the extract kit due to me being lazy, but I plan on keeping a close eye on the boil regardless. When you say you fermented at the lower end of the temp, what was is consistently at? I also went with the Wyeast 1056 rather than changing the recipe, just to get...

    Nylon Bag Cleaning

I wash mine inside out with oxyclean and rinse with a kitchen sprayer, hang it to dry and then blow off the dried grain/husks with some compressed air. Prior to brewing, i soak it in the sanitizer bucket while waiting on the boil. I know it's not needed to sanitize before the boil, but I am OC...

20 mins into my 115th Hopdream IIPA!

Any updates on this kit? I just ordered one from NB and plan on starting it this coming weekend and would appreciate any "further" tips. Looking at the previous 8 pages, I think I am also going to be building a "hop hanger" for the boil. Anyone use this device with a pound of hops yet?

2 months in, tastes like soap. Salvage?

There is a "real" home-brew shop in Nutter Fort and it's not The Spirit Shop. The only down side is that the "Cellar" is only open on Fridays. Todd is the real deal home brewer and winemaker. Anyhow. , his shop is behind RG Honda in the back basement of the old Custom Carpet. The guys at the...

    No steeping bag

+1 on the above post...I went to Lowe's and they had 3 packs of "paint strainers" for $5.00, work great and also double for the all-grain BIAB.

    Blue Moon Winter Abbey Ale

Not a big fan of the original Blue Moon Belgian White, but I have to say that I tasted the winter abbey and it is fantastic for a BMC beer. I did a search on here and was wondering if anyone had tried it and if there may be a recipe out there somewhere. Mucho Thanko.

Anything You Wish You had Known

Depending on what "Recipe Kit" if any you are buying; don't go by the directions that come with them. If you buy a kit, search these knowledgeable boards and go with that.

Should I make a starter with a smack pack?

As an added note, you have a great excuse for the wifey. " Honey, i started this yeast two days ago and absolutely have to make this beer tonight..I know it's our anniversary, but I really hate to waste the lives of all of those poor little creatures".

    tired of bottling...

That's all you need if you want to spend a bunch of money....I bet you could scrape together that kit for no more than $100.00 if that. I asked a Pepsi driver where a guy might pick up a few of those "containers" and he said "how many would you like?" I traded him some home brew received 3 of...

What does beer look like in the fermenter before bottling

This is not my saying, I saw it in someones signature somewhere on this board...."If it looks like a monkey took a s**t and flung it around inside the carboy...you my friend are on your way to a great beer" Like I said, not my "saying" but I likes it!
