Trying to make my electric brew day even lazier

I use a tankless hot water heater with a commercial chip to fill my HLT with close to mash temp water, and my boil kettle with close to strike temp water. BCS PID to get them to and hold temp. It’s almost always at temp waiting for dough in while I’m still grinding grain, and I don’t have to...

    Don't Do That.

When preparing to do an under pressure transfer to the keg, open the bottom port instead of racking port. Don’t do that.

    Don't Do That.

But we struggle through the consumption and carry on!

    Don't Do That.

Once, my recipe called for 1.17 of one type of grain and 1.9 of another and down the list. I just got 2 lbs of everything... accidentally put it all in the same bag. Threw the balance of the beer all off. It was OK... just not what I intended to make.

What I did for beer today

Hooked up a picnic tap to my fermenter and decided to drink it instead of kegging it today. Oops.
  10. HornyGoatStout

    Don't Do That.

Get grains for a recipe... decide to round up to the nearest lb on every grain. Put them in the same bag. Don’t do that.

You know you're a home brewer when?

You get a yeast infection.... and think about making a starter.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Tasty. Thanks for the recipe. 14 days from brew day, straight from the fermenter. Cold crashed and carbed starting day 12.

    My 20 gallon EHERMS build

Mine uses a BCS and an iPad for control. I can always intervene on the control panel manually, but monitor temp on the iPad or my phone if I’m walking around.

Constant recirculation in mash vs other

I have a Spike system, and I also do a constant recirc through the HERMS. I monitor temperature on the top mash tun input to make sure that it is always hitting my mash temp. That generally puts my HLT at about 2-3 degrees above mash temp.

    My 20 gallon EHERMS build

I’ll upload some pics tomorrow. Relatively simple: I used a window ac unit I had in the shed. (8000 btu I believe) Carefully opened it up and took off the evaporator fan. Gently maneuvered the evaporator into a cooler that I put a notch in. I used a triclamp thermowell I had lying...

    My 20 gallon EHERMS build

Finished a glycol chiller build today. All I can say is wow! Able to cold crash 15 gallons from 65 to 34 in just a few hours with the Spike Conical cooling coil. Me likey.

    Show us your Kegerator

In the drip tray if I don’t rinse it out. Otherwise I keep the taps clean and capped. Keeps the nasties away.
