    Redesigned Blichmann Engineering AutoSparge

Doctor M - I guess I still misunderstand - what would you need to connect onto the hose barb outlet? Is there a reason that you can't just use the AutoSparge as is with the Brew Magic? I seem to recall that they just used a hose as well - could be wrong about that. Barnesie - I am not...

    Redesigned Blichmann Engineering AutoSparge

Doctor M - you should be able to just install this in the mash tun. With the brew magic you need to manually adjust the hot liquor flow if I recall correctly. Putting the AutoSparge in the MT will automatically regulate the flow into the tun. Or am I missing something obvious... John B

    Redesigned Blichmann Engineering AutoSparge

Just added an updated product to our web page - the redesigned AutoSparge. We had a lot of feedback from brewers wanting an all stainless valve body and hose float ball. We've worked with our suppliers to implement it at a $20 price increase. $70 for the complete assembly. We've improved the...

    Blichmann Engineering Burner Rusting...

I agree with thargrav - the best thing is to keep it covered. The high temp paints (black or aluminum) will eventually lift and the rust will reappear. Although it will take a LONG time to cause enough corrosion to change the performance though. While it isn't likely to change the...

    Blichmann regulator hose on fire

Thanks Camelcarlson - We by no means claim to have omnipotent customer service powers, but if we don't reply in a few days it is likely that we just didn't get your message somehow. In any case, always contact you're retailer first for any issues. They're a great bunch and have staff at the...

    Blichmann regulator hose on fire

John here from Blichmann Engineering. Heard about this post second hand from another feedback inquiry we got from our web page. I'm not sure what happened to the original inquiry from Camelcarlson, so will answer here. I am guessing, without seeing the actual parts first hand, that there...

Blichmann boil screen for pellet hops

Ryan, the HopBlocker will work for trub as well. But I do need to reiterate that it is really designed specifically for pellet hops, not loose leaf hops. For leaf hops we recommend using large muslin grain bags for two reasons - the main reason being wort loss. With the bags you can...

Blichmann boil screen for pellet hops

When I was using an IC I just whirlpooled before putting it in. THe whirlpool slows pretty quickly so after about 5min I put the chiller in and 10min later turned the water on after it was heat sanitized. Or you could whirlpool after taking it out I suppose, but you'd need to make sure...

Blichmann boil screen for pellet hops

Per the manual we recommend using a large muslin grain bag for whole hops if you have trouble with plugging. (1) you will get significantly better batch yield since the hops absorb so much wort and (2) hop utilization is negligibly affected in the large bags. (3) cleanup is much easier. When...

Blichmann boil screen for pellet hops

We considered that early on, but the piece cost and tooling cost made it prohibitive. And the performance we acheived with just the 2 sizes really made it unnecessary.

Blichmann boil screen for pellet hops

Zymurgy101 - What you have described is exactly how it should perform. If you end up getting a lot of hop particulates on the fine screen you're draining faster than the wort can permeate through the hop sediment. Remember, the HopBlocker works in a completely different manner than a...

    Thoughts on BoilerMaker purchase

The other issue is you'll get a pretty significant boil off % which you'll need to compensate for...15-20%??? But honestly, if you're doing all the work for an all-grain batch I'd never do just 5 gal. Even if you don't drink that much you can split it with a fellow brewer. I have a friend...

    SS Conical Thermometer

I'm very much simple is better kinda guy. I agree with Emian - a liquid crystal thermometer is extremely accurate (much more than a bi-metal thermo). I have measured using RTD's and the core temp vs wall temp is less than a degree at high krausen. Insignificant. If you are using a...

    Thoughts on BoilerMaker purchase

We just released a hole plug kit so you can relocate the thermo to a lower position for smaller batches. But 5 gal is going to sit awfully low in a 20gal pot. One thought would be to get a 15gal pot and then when you're ready to move to a 3 pot 10gal system you can use it for a mashtun or HLT...

Blichmann boil screen for pellet hops

Mikfire - a couple comments on getting the last bit of wort out. First is really slowing down the drain rate when you get to the level of the dip tube. The real issue is trying to get the wort to permeate through the porous bed of pellet hop particles and into the HopBlocker. The second issue...

Blichmann boil screen for pellet hops

No need to use keg lube. A bit of water on the tube and/or fitting is all you need as a lubricant. TO remove, simply get the tube off the oring detent with the tip of a screwdriver and then it'll putt right out. All this is detailed in the manual.

Blichmann boil screen for pellet hops

Hey guys - no need for anything fancy to lift the shield. I just use a racking cane to lift it and a stir paddle to hold the main body in place. Friction holds the shield up. Key factor to get the last 2 inches out is a slow drain. The filter plugging isn't the issue - it's getting the wort...

Blichmann boil screen for pellet hops

OK - sorry for the suspense. It is really quite unique yet very simple. The finger pull is to lift the solid shield to expose a fine perf filter. End of the boil you whirlpool, let things settle for 15-20 min as usual and begin draining. The shield covers the fine perf at the bottom 2" and...
