    Foul bitter taste.

Did you not use a wine or ale yeast? If so, you more than likely had some naturally occuring nasties in there that fouled your batch. The age and temperatures you mentioned certainly would not have made that batch bad. - GL63

    Ventmatic vs. Perlick

FWIW, I have 3 Ventmatics and they are awesome - I have no experience with the Perlicks, but the Perlicks are copies of Ventmatics, so why not go with the original? - GL63

    Hefeweizen usually slow?

I have never had a hefe go slow ..... take a hydro reading - your fermentation may be over .....

How many taps do you have on your draft system?

Although my kegerator holds 6 kegs, I have 4 taps - including a dedicated N2 dispensed Stout Faucet + 3 Vent-Matics. It's nice to have conditioned back-up kegs ready when one goes empty.

    Equipment Needed

Still or 'flat' cider is not carbonated, ie, there are no bubbles in it - kinda' like tap water, where carbonated cider is, well, carbonated - you know, like soda pop is .....

    Lautering and Extract Efficiency

Like Catfish said, do not stir, but ..... I found by gently 'breaking' up the grain bed with a piece of stainless, 1/4" rod every 10-15 minutes, my efficiency went up about 5%. Why? Because it prevents 'channeling' ...... where the sparge water kinda' finds paths through the grain bed and...

    AG Recipe Formulation

When brewing 'standard 5 gallon batches', I shoot for 5.5 gallons to collect from my boil kettle (post boil obviously). Then, after racking to my secondary, I am assured a solid 5 gallons. With my system, I : 1) Sparge until I collect 7 3/4 gallons of wort. 2) Do 90 minute boils 3)...

    Beersmith

I've been using BeerSmith since getting into AG brewing 15 months ago (19 batches so far), and love it. It is an outstanding program that is very intuitive, and, once you have it tweaked to your equipment, gives remarkably accurate results. Brad Smith ..... you rock !!! :rockin:

    Mash 5.2

I've used 5.2 in the 3 AG batches I've made since moving to my new house which has very good tasting, but very, very hard well water. My efficiencies have been 70, 80, and 81%. I'm brewing again this coming Saturday and I'll use it again then as well ..... I'll post my efficiency on this...

    I Forgot The Irish Moss

I'm a relative newcomer to brewing beer, making a total of 18 batches since September of 2006. This past weekend, I brewed a batch of English Nut Brown Ale which, by the way, was a repeat of a batch I made this past spring. In any event, I forgot to add a tsp. of Irish Moss during the last...

CO2 Tanks: Are they really this expensive?

Guess I really lucked out when a friend of mine gave me TWO 15 pounders (he said he recently swithced to a different type of welding system that doesn't require CO2) that were just certified in January of this year. It cost me a total of $24 to get them both filled at the local welding supply!
