March Pump Problems: Very Bad Brew Day

Ah yes, the ole wort on the pump trick! Yes indeed, your pump should be maintained with 4 or 5 drops of SAE 20 weight non-detergent oil. You can see the oil ports at each bearing front and back on the top of the motor. This is another reason that these things should be mounted up-right...

March Pump Problems: Very Bad Brew Day

Did you pull the head apart? I would do that first just to make sure it does not have some grain or something stopping the impeller. Put it back to together and try it... I have had this happen before once.

    Question about Brutus welds.

It is likely with TIG that you may not even have to grind your welds flush as they lay down so pretty and much more flush than MIG... Remember, no one has to grind the welds... I did it because I did not want to be dragging my nice pots across the top scratching them all up. Once I ground the...

    Question about Brutus welds.

Indeed I did use MIG... I would have loved to bring home a TIG from work, but that is owned by the gubbment... MIG will lay down a nice penetrating weld none the less, but I figured that since I was going to grind them flush anyway I chose MIG. It is MUCH faster throwing down a MIG vs a TIG to...

    Question about Brutus welds.

Yea,, funny thing is that I work(ed) in a state of the art shop for my day job. But there was no way that I could fabricate anything for myself in it!

    Question about Brutus welds.

So the premise behind my design is very simple my friends... I am a cheap scape! 16" of stainless put me over the two 20' sticks that I purchased, beside the fact that it ain't cheap to dig into another stick just for a foot or two... As for the welds, well... They will indeed hold up a mack...

Semi-Automatic HERMS System (Work in Progress)

This is gonna be a great looking brewery my friend! At this point I would only caution a few things that I see... Be careful with wire routing, making sure that you do not get it near the upper frame. I would exit any internal wiring at least 4 to 5 inches below the upper rails. It gets...

I have been having problems with my motorized Barley Crusher

boo boo is on to something here I think... My BC does this constantly also now. Now, I love the dang thing, but after many bearing cleaning and oiling, gap settings, I have finally boiled it down to the rollers. I swear I have ran a few hundred batches through this thing so I am totally happy if...

You know, I find this fascinating! So did you get a powder coating gun? A kit? Man, you and I only live a few hundred miles down 45 from each other. We should get together! I have been dabbling in "home color anodizing"... Another great metallurgist hobby! Yea, I'll have the Performer and the...

    Yuri's Brew Yurt (Hut)

Gawd, this is looking great my friend! Man, I love the powder coating! Very many years ago, I powder coated dang near an entire Piper Super Cub piece by piece in my kitchen oven! With that oven, you are going to be a BIG hit in the neighborhood come next week! I am thinking like what, 30 to...

    Brutus 10 frame questions

Thanks my friend... I think I had mentioned in my article, and I forgot to mention in that particular thread, all my stainless cost me less than 200 bucks at that time. 40' of 2 X 2 X .120 for 200 bucks cut. Good gawd those were the days! Unfortunately now, (if you even can get the stuff from...

    Brutus 10 frame questions

Ha! You would only need one burner!! Sorry friends. I have explained my reasonings here before as to why "I" went with .120, and have expressed that it is not totally needed. Most recently, I expressed this directly to Yuri in another thread as to why I (me) used .120 stainless 2 X 2... So...
