Storing water filters between brew days

This is exactly what I do with my RO filters (3), except I keep them on a shelf that the wife gave me in the laundry room. I dismantle the whole system and store it in the cool AC until next use... My old single filter setup, I just drained and stored the whole thing in my deep freezer. I thawed...

Question Maintaining Mash Temp in a Direct Fired RIMS?

Actually I would have to differ with that one... I brew every two weeks year round; that's guaranteed... It gets well below freezing here in the winter believe it or not. Funny. there is little in-between here. Either I am freezing my butt off, or dyeing in 100 degree heat. It is a matter of...

Question Maintaining Mash Temp in a Direct Fired RIMS?

I would agree with Catt (to some degree)... Automating the temp control will be a great upgrade. But I must challenge the premise that you are loosing one degree per minute, or even close to that. That is impossible my friend, even in Alberta! :) If you heated your mash to 152 or so, even left...

love probe vs thermowell doesn't fit

You have to remove the black vinyl coating on the Love probes to fit the thermowell. Just use a small file or sand paper and get it back down to the brass. After that, check your thermowell to make sure the opening is .250. When they flare the end, (if you have that type) it sometimes reduces...

    Basic Brutus Questions

Not sure how you fellas are using your setups, but you know how I use mine... Be it dials, or digital or each, the way I brew does require gauges in the pots as well as digital temp control. That is how I designed it. I'll say this, I have purchased at least ten Miljoco's over the years and they...

    mashing with brutus ten

Not correct. The wort goes through the lid into a curved copper tube to the inside edge of the pot, at or near the surface of the grain bed. There is no splashing.

    March pump overheated???

The only time I have had this problem is reaching boiling temps as well, although it is rare that I have this occur. It's because at 200+, your water is developing little micro bubbles at this temp as it is starting to boil. Of course your outlet is right at the heat source. At least in my case...

WTF is this thing for? ("mashpad")

Actually a little reading... As I recall in our green board debates, Palmer, working for 3M, had approached this question with 3M. Of course 3M is not going to put a friggin food safe label on a floor buffer pad. Neither will China put one on our brass QD's and fittings that most of us use in...

WTF is this thing for? ("mashpad")

Ah yes, I was part of the old green board debates during that time too... It is a common buffer pad you can get at lowes. They were in use for quite some time in brewing and even sold at a lot of HBS here or there, including the old green board store. I used one for years, wash it off with a...

Little Giant 2 MD, just bought 2 for $55 each

Actually, sorry to confuse! Just picking with my friends. It's a March/LG thing! And hopefully they know I am just having fun... :) If you want a great pump, I don't think you can really go wrong with the LG. Actually with your thoughts on a CIP, you may just want something more powerful than...

Little Giant 2 MD, just bought 2 for $55 each

Really? Because I use March, and I have used the LG's for, oh I don't know, about 25 years now. Say, how old are you? :) :)

Brew stands, pumps etc - make brewing easier?

Man do I agree! Yea, one thing I can say, I built Brutus for the sole purpose of consistency and that it does extremely well... You fellas that have gone above my system with the full automation are only doing better I am sure! But my brew days are longer too, yet maybe a little easier for me...
