Are there any brew system plans out there?

Or just email me. :) I have never required a subscription my friend, but I do thank you for the kind words! It is nice when someone purchases the back order of the plans, but that has never been a requirement actually. Sometimes the backorder has been a bit hard to get at times. I do like it...

    My EVIL Thermometer

I calibrate everything using my Thermapen. It is good to have and dead accurate. But even still, if you are making great beer and your thermometer is off a few degrees, keep using it and make great beer! Otherwise as they say, a man with two watches doesn't know what time it is. :)

The complete cleaning regimen of a brutus system

Ha! I always seem to miss this thread when it comes up... So below you can see a typical ball valve. Behind the seals of the ball is a lot of entrapment areas. A lot! Throughout the brew day this area is filled every time you open or close the valve as just a slight opening will expose the dark...

Why are carbonator caps so expensive?

I am pretty sure this thing is two molded parts actually. There is the outer cap itself, and an inner molded insert that houses the poppet. I don't think there would be a way to mold this thing solid with a spring loaded poppet all in one piece.

Chugger pump first time use problems

In short of a pump jam itself, if properly primed there should be no issue. I pump 20 gallons up from a can sitting on the floor (below my pots) up to my pots on Brutus every single brew day using my 809's. I should add that my pumps are above the water source too. It's all about priming properly.

    Home RO system?

The RO that I linked to came with a auto shut off valve too. Not bad at all for the price! Also from BRS is an auto shut off kit. Looks handy, comes with a float switch...

    Home RO system?

I couldn't do without my RO system. I have a simple 4 stage from Bulk Reef Supply. Here: http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/store/75-gp-5-stage-ro-system-no-di.html GREAT prices! I love BRS, and the kit contained every thing I would need to have a free flowing standup system that I can hook to...

Propane...Low Pressure, high pressure, orifices? What does it all mean?

It seems the whole premise of the question revolves around the above statement. Yes indeed. LP-LP is a great setup to boil 10-12 gallon batches. My tank usually last at least 5 brews on Brutus, and I do some sanitizing also during every batch...

I can't believe how hard drilling a keg is

Work hardening is key here. Once the part is work hardened, might as well be trying to drill glass with a rubber drill bit in reverse. Personally, I have only one unibit. I can't count how many holes I have drilled with that thing before I built Brutus, and that was another 10 or 15 holes in...

how to pressure test brutus gas beam

I assume it is leaking pretty fast? Like won't hole pressure at all? I must ask, did you weld up the beam fully BEFORE installing the cross sections to the rear frame?

    Countertop Brutus 20

In my original Brutus 2.0 design, I recirculate the pots back to themselves. This clears the wort crystal clear. Then I switch the lids when all has cleared. Kegcowboy, I have been meaning to come see your shop. Several members from my brewclub (Mashtronauts) say it's real nice. I don't need...

    Adding copper to the boil

I have an infamous copper rod that I have thrown in every boil for the last 10 years. It looks like hell, don't know if it really adds much, but I have always done it. It certainly wont hurt a thing.

    brutus 10 planning question

You are correct! That's 12" inside dimensions, 16 overall footprint... I have seen several using kegs. Wider may good too... The kegs are a bit taller than my pots are, so you may want to think about shortening the height to suit your needs. I designed the height of the stand for my pots, not kegs.

What are the hose-switching steps of a Brutus-10 brewday?

These fellas got it all right. You will adapt to fit your needs. Watch my cheezy videos if you will. It will explain most of what you are looking for. I am working on a DVD I will post when I am done and go into much more detail, but that is a ways off. Um, Lone Star. Actually it is a dang...

waiting for Brutus 10 plans, but a question:

Howdy! Thanks for ordering the plans... No, I don't make anything off my plans and that's cool by me. I got a small article payment when I published and that's good enough! Stout tanks, if I had to do it all over again, I am sure these are the pots I would go with! If they care to send me a...

Storing water filters between brew days

I have a very good friend that lives down the road that talked to be about all this as well. Got me over my fears of tap water so to speak. Some may recall her name. Ginger Wotring. She wrote the water portion for the BJCP Exam Study Guide...

Storing water filters between brew days

I had thought the same thing... That was some time ago when I was sending my filtered water in to Ward Labs for testing. I have not had a problem freezing my cheapy orange borg filters... Of course now I use RO as a few years ago I moved closer to the water here by Galveston. The water profile...

Storing water filters between brew days

Gotta agree with Catt on this... I have had some pretty moldy filters here in Texas... They seem much happier dry in the cool house. I will say that freezing them for storage seems great too. I have done that for years with no ill effect.
